Current Research and Scholarly Interests My research focuses on the circuit level analysis autism spectrum disorder (ASD). My work demonstrates that deficits in serotonin (5-HT) signaling produce social deficits seen in a mouse model of a prevalent ASD type, deletion of the 16p11.2 chromosome. We precisely identified the role of 5-HT release in the nucleus accumbens (NAc) in normal social behavior, and showed that rapid activation of a specific 5-HT receptor in the NAc reverses social deficits in the 16p11.2 deletion model.
