Rohan Shad
Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Cardiothoracic Surgery
Bio Rohan completed his medical training from the University College of Medical Sciences (Univ. of Delhi), New Delhi. He worked with the departments of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Mount Sinai, NY and Stanford University for his advanced elective rotations. During his medical school years, he worked on designing and developing novel mechanical heart valves making use of computational fluid dynamics methods and additive manufacturing techniques. His work was funded by the Indian government dept. of biotechnology.

Joseph Shrager
Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Stanford University Medical Center
Current Research and Scholarly Interests In clinical research, Dr. Shrager has been an innovator studying outcomes in a variety of areas within Thoracic Surgery including: parenchyma-sparing operations and minimally invasive resections for lung cancer, transcervical thymectomy for myasthenia gravis, and surgical treatment of emphysema.
In the lab, Dr. Shrager is focused on the impact of disease states upon the diaphragm. His group published the seminal paper (NEJM) describing diaphragm atrophy assoc'd with mechanical ventilation. -
Yasuhiro Shudo
Clinical Assistant Professor, Cardiothoracic Surgery
Bio Dr. Yasuhiro Shudo is a cardiothoracic surgeon and clinical assistant professor in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Stanford University.
Dr. Shudo specializes in the surgical treatment for end-stage cardiopulmonary failure, including heart transplant, heart-lung transplant, lung transplant, mechanical circulatory support (MCS), and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). He has published numerous landmark papers and chapters.
In addition, Dr. Shudo provides mitral valve repair/replacement (MVR), aortic valve replacement (AVR), complex valve surgery, minimally invasive surgery, coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery, re-operative cardiac surgery, trans-catheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).
Dr. Shudo runs a basic and translational science laboratory, focusing on tissue engineered stem cell biology to treat end-stage heart failure, as a heart failure surgeon. As the author or co-author of more than 80 scholarly articles, Dr. Shudo has published in Circulation, Circulation Research, Science Advances, Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation, Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Annals of Thoracic Surgery, and elsewhere. He is the recipient of multiple honors and awards, including the American Heart Association and the International Society for Heart & Lung Transplantation.
Originally from Osaka, Japan, Dr. Shudo received his medical degree and PhD from the Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine. He completed his residency and fellowship in Osaka, Japan, after which he completed a postdoctoral research fellowship at University of Pennsylvania, PA and an advanced transplant fellowship at Stanford University Hospital. -
