    Current Research and Scholarly Interests Dr. Banda’s research aims to design, test, and disseminate creative solutions for child physical inactivity and obesity in after-school and family settings. His work emphasizes innovative data analysis methods with the current generation of triaxial accelerometers to rigorously evaluate interventions and to explore relationships between sleep, sedentary behavior, physical activity, and health among youth. A second line of research focuses on built environment and policy interventions targeting physical activity, healthful eating, and obesity.

    Shanil Ebrahim

    Bio Dr. Shanil Ebrahim specializes in clinical epidemiology, meta-analytic methods, insurance medicine, disability management, and mental health issues in the workplace. His primary methodological focus is in the evaluation of re-analyses and secondary analyses of randomized trials, addressing the impact of missing participant data in meta-analyses, multilevel regression modeling, and multiple treatment comparison models. His primary focus in insurance medicine is in determining optimal management and evaluating predictors of recovery in patients receiving disability benefits, and systematically evaluating the evidence of independent medical evaluations. For his doctoral work, Dr. Ebrahim developed the first rigorous approach to address missing participant data for continuous outcomes in systematic reviews.

    Dr. Ebrahim has authored numerous publications in high impact peer-reviewed journals including JAMA, CMAJ, Journal of Clinical Epidemiology, PLoS ONE, BMJ Open, Chest, Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics, and Journal of Public Health Policy. For his academic efforts, Dr. Ebrahim has received numerous scholarships including the Canadian Institutes of Health Research Fellowship and Doctoral, and the MITACS Elevate and Accelerate awards.

    Current Research and Scholarly Interests Dr. Grieco's research focuses on the design, development and clinical testing of new technologies for improving behavioral health outcomes; and design of innovative, evidence-based programs to optimize health and productivity among individuals and in the workplace.

    Bio Lisa Offringa is postdoctoral scholar working in the Stanford Research Prevention Center with Dr. Christopher Gardner as her mentor. Lisa’s research focuses on medicinal and food plants used by the different communities living in the San Francisco Bay area. More specifically, her research aims to increase the dietary intake of plants and medicinal foods. Her dissertation research at The New York Botanical Garden was on medicinal plants from Northern Thailand used to treat memory disorders in the elderly. Dr. Offringa’s research interests include medical ethnobotany, traditional medical systems, food as medicine, phytochemistry, sustainable food systems and preserving biocultural diversity.

    Current Research and Scholarly Interests Psychosocial, behavioral and environmental determinants of physical activity and healthy eating; food choice; the impact of contextual factors on the health outcomes of minority and aging populations, respectively; the development of technology-based physical activity and nutrition interventions; settings-based health promotion; health-related implications of Smart Growth; nutrition and physical activity-related policy.
