Research Interests
What distinguishes us humans from other animals is our ability to undergo complex behavior. The synapses are the structural connection between neurons that mediates the communication between neurons, which underlies our various cognitive function. My research program aims to understand the cellular and molecular mechanisms that underlie synapse function during behavior in the developing and mature brain, and how synapse function is altered during mental retardation.

We are a highly interdisciplinary research team, joined in our desire to better understand microbial life. To elucidate how bacterial cells accumulate biomass and grow, we work with the model organism Escherichia coli. We further focus on gut bacteria and their interactions with the human host. Our approaches combine quantitative experimentation and mathematical modeling.

Research Interests
My research has focused on improving the visual outcomes of children with congenital cataracts. I organized a randomized clinical trial, the Infant Aphakia Treatment Study to compare the visual outcomes of infants optically corrected with a contact lens vs. an intraocular lens after unilateral cataract surgery. A second area of research has been ocular growth after cataract surgery.

Research Interests
Dr. Lin conducts clinical trials focused on cornea transplantation, corneal edema, and cornea infections at Stanford. His research interests include improving the success and safety of cutting edge surgeries such as ultra-thin DSAEK, DMEK, DALK, and DSO. He is actively researching surgical therapies for corneal edema and Fuchs' Dystrophy. He is among a handful of cornea specialists nationwide with extensive experience using intraoperative OCT imaging to perform cornea transplants.

Dr Mruthyunjaya has maintained a broad research interest with publications in both ocular oncology and retinal diseases.
His focus is on multi-modal imaging of ocular tumors and understanding imaging clues that may predict vision loss after ocular radiation therapy. He coordinates multi-center research on the role of genetic testing and outcomes of treatments of ocular melanoma.
In the field of retinal diseases, his interests are in intra-operative imaging to enhance surgical accuracy.
