Ronald Hanson
Clarence J. and Patricia R. Woodard Professor of Mechanical Engineering
Research Interests
Professor Hanson has been an international leader in the development of laser-based diagnostic methods for combustion and propulsion, and in the development of modern shock tube methods for accurate determination of chemical reaction rate parameters needed for modeling combustion and propulsion systems. He and his students have made several pioneering contributions that have impacted the pace of propulsion research and development worldwide.

Maximilian Koch
Postdoctoral Scholar, Stanford Cancer Institute
Research Interests
My current research focuses on developing novel cellular immunotherapies for pediatric cancers. This includes identifying suitable MHC-restricted and native antigens that are expressed by malignant cells but ideally absent from healthy tissues. On the receptor side, both CARs and TCRs are being characterized for their specificity, affinity, and functionality. Ultimately, non-viral gene delivery methods will be explored and optimized to enable affordable, precise, and consistent cell products.

Denise M. Monack
Martha Meier Weiland Professor in the School of Medicine
Research Interests
The primary focus of my research is to understand the genetic and molecular mechanisms of intracellular bacterial pathogenesis. We use several model systems to study complex host-pathogen interactions in the gut and in immune cells such as macrophages and dendritic cells. Ultimately we would like to understand how Salmonella persists within certain hosts for years in the face of a robust immune response.

Mary Beth Mudgett
Senior Associate Dean for the Natural Sciences and Susan B. Ford Professor
Research Interests
My laboratory investigates how bacterial pathogens employ proteins secreted by the type III secretion system (TTSS) to manipulate eukaryotic signaling to promote disease. We study TTSS effectors in the plant pathogen Xanthomonas euvesicatoria, the causal agent of bacterial spot disease of pepper and tomato. For these studies, we apply biochemical, cell biological, and genetic approaches using the natural hosts and model pathosystems.
