Dr. Chen is a postdoctoral research fellow at the Department of Health Policy in the Stanford School of Medicine. Her research focuses on examining machine learning techniques with novel data sources and is developing new algorithmic fairness and mental health projects.

3) Personalized decision-making: I work on machine learning and statistical challenges of personalized decision-making. The problems that I have worked on are primarily motivated by healthcare applications.

I am interested in elucidating factors that contribute to initiation, maintenance, and exacerbation of substance use, as well as problematic substance use consequences. To date, I have largely focused on investigating psychosocial aspects of social drinking experiences via naturalistic, experimental, and meta-analytic studies.

I additionally seek to use scholarly advocacy to enhance diversity, equity, and inclusion within clinical and academic spaces.

My students and I study sediment and water balances in aging reservoirs, collaborative governance of transnational fresh waters, the design of centralized and decentralized wastewater collection, treatment, and reuse systems in urban areas, and hydrologic ecosystem services in urban areas and in systems for which sediment production, transport, and deposition have significant consequences.
