Postdoctoral Fellowship in Computational Biology

Seeking postdoctoral fellow in computational biology to work in the laboratory of Professor Sylvia Plevritis of Biomedical Data Science, located in the James H. Clark Center at Stanford University. The postdoctoral fellow will work on the development and application of novel computational algorithms to analyze and integrate diverse genomic, proteomic and imaging cancer datasets, including bulk/single-cell RNA-seq, single-cell proteomics and multiplexed in-situ images, in the study of cancer. The fellow will aim to understand mechanisms through which the tumor microenvironment impacts cancer progression and therapeutic resistance. The research projects involve reconstructing transcriptional and signaling networks as well as characterizing spatial heterogeneity of the tumor microenvironment using high-throughput data derived from cellular subpopulations within tumors. The postdoctoral fellow will work closely with experimental molecular biologists to translate computationally-derived results into experimentally testable hypotheses and analyze the resulting data from the experiments.

Requirements:

Candidate must have a strong quantitative background, with a PhD in computational biology, bioinformatics or related field including engineering, computer science, statistics, or mathematics. Strong knowledge in machine learning, statistics and programming (R, Python, C/C++, or MATLAB) are required. Knowledge in one or more of the following areas is desirable: next-generation sequencing, single-cell data analysis, gene network reconstruction, immunology and imaging processing. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential. Visa or work permit status.

Research Assistantship - Programmer Analyst

Research Assistantship - Programmer Analyst in Cancer Outcomes Simulation-Based Modeling is available in Dr. Sylvia Plevritis’ Lab located in the James H. Clark Center at Stanford University. The position focuses on the development and application of computer simulation-based modeling to study the impact of alternative cancer screening and treatment strategies on cancer incidence and mortality rates in the US population and inform public health policy.

Job Responsibilities Include:

A major component of the position involves either (1) simulating the cost-effectiveness of alternative lung cancer screening guidelines, or (2) simulating the impact of treatment on distant recurrence.  

Requirements:

The ideal candidate should have or be pursuing a Master’s Degree in a field related to simulation modeling (i.e. operations research, applied mathematics, economics) or a field that involves training in statistical analysis of clinical data (i.e. biostatistics, health-outcomes research, epidemiology). 

Experience in stochastic simulation modeling, Monte Carlo methods, parameter estimation, survival analysis and computer programming is critical (Python or R).  

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary.
