Family Centered Rounds
In August 2010, Family Centered Rounds (FCR) was launched at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital with a pilot on the General Pediatrics Hospitalist Inpatient Service (Blue Team). The mission statement of FCR is "to create a family centered culture that improves clinical, safety, and satisfaction outcomes by valuing, respecting, and integrating the voices of the patient, family, and all members of the healthcare team." FCR is multidisciplinary and incorporates the family, physicians, nurses, and ancillary services including case managers, dieticians, interpreters, occupational therapists, pharmacists, physical therapists, respiratory therapists, and social workers. This has greatly improved communication among team members and allows the family to partner with the medical providers. This initiative has been very successful and the practice of FCR has become the standard for rounds for nearly all medical teams on the acute care wards.
