GME House Staff On Call Parking Guidelines
Background and Context
- Emergent On-Call Parking access is available for staff with a 30-minute or less response time to emergent situations. This program allows 24/7 access to the 500P Pasteur Staff Garage and the 300P Emergency Department Surface Lot in emergent situations.
- Parking access consists of badge access to the garage + a physical permit that should be placed on the vehicle dashboard while parked. Because the access needs to be approved and the physical permit distributed, staff should apply for it before it is needed.
- Please visit the Stanford Medicine Transportation website for full details about this program and how to apply.
- In addition, the requirements for this parking option are outlined in the Hospital Transportation Parking Code, which is linked to the Stanford Health Care Transportation Services Policy.
Next Steps
- House Staff must apply for emergent on-call access by completing the Emergent Response Staff Parking for 500P/300P Emergency Department form.
- Once completed and approved, the Hospital Transportation Services Operations team will reach out to confirm access has been granted and provide direction on how to get and use the physical permit for your vehicle dashboard.

SCH/LPCH
- The garages at SCH/LPCH do not have the capacity to have dedicated emergent on-call parking, since both the LPCH West and Main garages are for patients and visitors, these garages cannot accommodate staff or physician parking without impacting visitor parking during the daytime.
- The Stanford Health Care’s dedicated emergent on-call parking located in the 500P Staff Garage and Emergency Department (ED) parking are the available options. The closest parking for House Staff responding to SCH/LPCH emergencies is the Pediatrics ED parking lot. All approved Emergent On-Call access requests automatically grant access to Pediatric ED.
- Alternatively, House Staff can also request badge access to park in the LPCH West Garage between 4:00pm to 4:00am on weekdays and 24/7 during weekends.

Stanford Health Care (SHC) provides fatigue mitigation via the use of Uber. Residents/fellows will receive a link to the Graduate Medical Education (GME) Uber account upon commencement of training at SHC. The Uber link allows rides from SHC, SCH/LPCH, Palo Alto Veterans Affairs (VA), Santa Clara Valley Medical Center (SCVMC), and Kaiser Santa Clara to the trainee's home address of record in the GME’s MedHub system. The system also allows for a return ride from your home address of record back to the originating hospital site.
Trainees needing to use Uber for fatigue mitigation from other rotation sites must email Farah Yawary, 30 days before the start of the rotation to have the site added to GME’s Uber account.
- Please watch for the email link for the Uber account setup.
- Check your MedHub account to ensure your accurate home address or update your address if necessary.
Please observe the following guidelines when using your SHC UBER Account. GME will monitor usage and review the UBER report monthly and a formal policy will be created using the same guidelines.
- If you have both a personal and SHC Business account with UBER, select the SHC account only for its intended purposes.
- As a reminder – UBER is only to be used for FATIGUE MITIGATION – when you are too tired to drive home after a shift.
- It should not be used for daily commutes, car repairs, airports, dry cleaning, or any other reasons.
- Failure to comply will result in the following: reimbursement of charges, access suspension, and/or termination.
- The initial ride must derive from any Stanford Affiliate site listed in the App.
- 2 rides are permitted each day, for round trip purposes so you can retrieve your vehicle.
- Permitted a 0.25-mile radius to allow those who parked a distance away from campus.
- You should not have UBER make personal stops for anything other than home drop-off.
