New Fellows Orientation

Department Orientation Schedule
Please note each individual will be sent a personalized schedule that may differ from the general schedule provided below.

Day 1: Wednesday, July 6

11:30am -12:30pm | Lunch 
Center for Academic Medicine, Courtyard
Lunch will be available for anyone who is available and would like to eat before 12:30pm. Lunch will also be available during the Department Orientation at 12:30pm if you are unable to attend lunch at this time.

12:30pm - 5:00pm | Department Orientation, Part 1
Center for Academic Medicine, Grand Rounds Room
Department Orientation will kick off with a welcome from the Fellowship Leadership Team and include curriculum on adult learning theory, promoting autonomy, patient transfers, and anti-racism.

5:00pm - 6:00pm | Fellowship Community Mixer

Meet members of our fellowship community including program leaders, current fellows, and department leaders.

Day 2: July 7, 2022

7:00am - 7:30am | Check-In & Breakfast

7:30am - 12:00pm | Department Orientation, Part 2

Department Orientation will continue with a welcome from Department Chair, Mary Leonard and Associate Chair of Education, Becky Blankenburg, laptop distribution, professional headshot photo, and curriculum on Advancing Communication Excellence at Stanford (ACES) and effective feedback.

12:00pm - 1:00pm | Lunch & Travel to 4700 Bohannon Drive, Menlo Park
A boxed lunch will be provided. 

1:00pm - 5:00pm | Epic, Clinical Documentation, & SBAR Training

In the afternoon, fellows will participate in small group sessions for Epic, clinical documentation, and situation-background-assessment-recommendation (SBAR) communication training. 


We are thrilled that you have chosen to pursue your subspecialty training at Stanford and are excited to welcome you as we begin our journey together. As an introduction, we are the Fellowship Leadership Team (FLT) and are part of the Office of Pediatric Education (OPE). Our departmental team, in partnership with your divisional Program leadership, provide core curriculum, resources, and support to ensure that you reach your fellowship goals while fostering a robust learning community to enhance your fellowship experience. We are confident that your time here will be exceptional, and our role is to make sure you have access to the tools, content, and mentors necessary to be successful, and that you finish fellowship with the skills to be a leader.

The required New Fellow Orientation will take place on Wednesday, July 6 and Thursday, July 7, 2022
