Cardiac
Anesthesiology

The Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesia Team consists of a group of specialty trained pediatric anesthesiologists devoted to caring for patients with a wide spectrum of congenital heart disease from neonates to adults. Care encompasses a variety of procedures, including cardiac surgery, interventional catheterization, electrophysiology, cardiac imaging, and non-cardiac surgery. Multi-disciplinary care coordination and collaboration with colleagues in the Stanford Children's Heart Center optimizes results and streamlines management. The cardiac subspecialties group includes adult congenital heart disease, transplant, and mechanical support, pulmonary artery reconstruction, pulmonary hypertension, and cardiac intensive care. The team is dedicated to collaborating with other cardiac services to improve perioperative outcomes for complex cases.


General Pediatric Anesthesiology

The General Operating Room Anesthesia Team is a group of pediatric anesthesia specialists who provide anesthesia care to patients undergoing various surgical and non-surgical cases. Covering the entire age spectrum of neonates to young adults, our anesthesiologists strive to provide safe, comfortable, patient and family-centered care. Working closely with our surgeons, radiologists, procedural subspecialists, nurses, child life specialists, and intensive care colleagues, our pediatric anesthesiologists ensure your child will receive a positive anesthesia care experience.


Abdominal Transplantation Anesthesiology

The Abdominal Transplantation Anesthesiology team provides exceptional clinical care to children undergoing liver, intestine, pancreas, and kidney transplants, as well as complex hepatobiliary surgeries. Our program is a top-performing abdominal transplant center in the United States and a consistent West Coast leader in abdominal transplantation. The dedicated team collaborates extensively with medical and surgical transplantation colleagues to create a comprehensive plan for each patient. The team designs unique clinical guidelines for patients with rare metabolic diseases for liver transplantation. The group offers a depth of experience in transplant anesthesiology, especially for patients under age one.


Orthopedic Spine Anesthesiology

The Stanford Pediatric Anesthesia Orthopedic Spine Team is a group of pediatric anesthesiologists that works closely with the Spine Program at Stanford Children's Health. We are dedicated to delivering the highest quality perioperative care to children undergoing major orthopedic procedures to treat various spinal disorders, including scoliosis, kyphosis, spondylolysis, and back pain. Our collaboration has resulted in developing innovative enhanced recovery protocols to improve perioperative outcomes. 


Pain Management

The Pain Management Service provides treatment for acute surgical and nonsurgical pain and chronic pain using a multidisciplinary biopsychosocial model. The service provides inpatient care, daily outpatient clinic, and an intensive 4-12 week outpatient pain rehabilitation program for children and teens incapacitated by pain. The service consists of faculty physicians, faculty psychologists, nurse practitioners, a physical therapist, an occupational therapist, postdoctoral psychology trainees, and usually a Pain Fellow in a non-ACGME one-year training program. The service enjoys an NIH-funded psychology research laboratory, postdoctoral research psychologists, and several research assistants and coordinators. Outpatient clinics are held in the SCH Clinics in Menlo Park, Emeryville in the East Bay, and the Rehabilitation Program is situated in Menlo Park.


Regional Anesthesiology

The Stanford University Pediatric Perioperative Pain and Regional Anesthesia (SUPRA) team is a group of specialized pediatric regional anesthesiologists and is a liaison with the hospital’s Inpatient Pain Management Team as well as with Stanford Hospital's Adult Regional Anesthesia Service. SUPRA is committed to providing safe and effective regional anesthesia and analgesia to all eligible pediatric patients presenting for surgery or pain management. This mission will be achieved by striving for excellence in clinical care, education, and research in regional anesthesia, POCUS, as well as perioperative medicine.  Our team also maintains a strong presence in local and national organizations, including ASRA, SPA, and ASA by leading workshops and educational panels.
