Rotation Guide & Goals
Critically ill children and neonates requiring a higher level of care are transported by trained Critical Care Transport teams that sustain and stabilize the patients during transport. The team members provide this care with limited personnel and in limited resource settings i.e. on the back of an ambulance, in a helicopter, or a fixed wing. Hospitalists and Intensivists frequently participate in patient transports particularly for critically ill patients. On this elective, residents will accompany the Pediatric Critical Care Transport Team for patients being transported into the PICU/CV-ICU. This exposure will allow residents to understand the challenges and complexities of transport. Most importantly, trainees will learn the skills to facilitate a safe transport via hands on experience
