Rotation Guide & Goals
The Pain Management elective will expose the resident to multiple aspects of pain management in both inpatient and outpatient settings. The resident will round with the inpatient pain team and assume primary responsibility for 1-4 primary patients daily. If interested, residents can participate in the outpatient clinic where common concerns include chronic abdominal pain, fibromyalgia, headache and complex regional pain syndrome. The resident will have the opportunity to be a part of a multidisciplinary team that assesses and manages pain in a group format. Residents will be exposed to various treatment modalities including oral analgesics, opiates and adjuvants, biofeedback, hot and cold therapy, post-operative catheter management, massage, hypnosis, and acupuncture.
Note: this elective does not include working with the regional anesthesia team (SUPRA team). If interested in rotating with that team, please consider creating a custom elective (faculty contact would be rjam@stanford.edu).
