Intensive Care Nephrology

Rotation Guide & Goals

This rotation is designed for individuals who are considering careers in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), or the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU). It is also a terrific adjunct for any resident who is considering a career in Pediatric Nephrology.

Again, the rotation is flexible and can be tailored to the interests of each resident. Residents on this rotation will primarily participate in ICU consults, but ample time is set aside for independent reading and educational session with the Nephrology Attendings. Residents assume primary responsibility for rounding on 2-3 consults per day.

The focus is on Nephrologic issues that tend to arise in the ICUs including acute kidney injury (AKI), Hemodialysis, Peritoneal Dialysis, Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT), Fluid Overload, Hypertensive Emergency/Urgency, Hyponatremia and Hypernatremia, Hyperkalemia, and other Electrolyte imbalances.
