Pediatric Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship

Fellowship Overview

The Stanford Pediatric Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship is a one-year ACGME accredited fellowship program welcoming two fellows per year. We are looking for individuals who will be future leaders and advance the field of pediatric hospice and palliative medicine through humble curiosity, passion for the work, clinical excellence, and academic contributions to research, education, and advocacy.

Program Mission and Aims

Our program seeks to train pediatric hospice and palliative medicine physicians who are experts in providing interdisciplinary, whole-person, patient and family-centered care to children living with serious illness across the lifespan and care continuum.

1. To train pediatric hospice and palliative medicine physicians who are experts in providing comprehensive subspecialty palliative care to individuals living with serious illness across the lifespan and care continuum.
   1. To assist fellows in developing an approach to delineation of goals of care and advance care planning to support development of goal-concordant care plans
   2. To provide fellows with the skills necessary to compassionately care for an imminently dying child and provide support to individuals who care for them
   3. To develop advance skills in comprehensive pain assessment and multimodal symptom management in children living with serious illness
   4. To develop foundational understanding of ethical and legal considerations common in the practice of pediatric hospice and palliative medicine.
2. To foster advanced interpersonal and communication skills to support effective interdisciplinary collaboration and exemplary patient care.
3. To cultivate a practice of self-reflection and foster a lifelong commitment to individual and systems-based improvement.
4. To develop clinician-leaders who will advance the field of pediatric hospice and palliative medicine through the pursuit of academic scholarship and education.
