Bridge to K

Pathway to Independence

The Department of Pediatrics Physician-Scientist Bridge to K Program (B2K) is designed to provide talented, passionate physician scientists essential financial support and career development mentorship to bridge the years between fellowship training and an academic faculty position. This competitive program will provide funding for selected early career physician scientists to complete up to three years as an Instructor with 75% protected time for research. It is expected that participants in the program will submit an application for an NIH Career Development (K) Award or equivalent.

Mentored Career Award Support

Annually, offered starting in late Feb / early March, this grant writing club is ideal for grant writers targeting proposals, like the NIH K Awards (K01, K08, K23, K99/R00, etc), that are due between June to October. This writing club meets weekly and involves lectures, peer review, faculty feedback, and one-on-one meetings with trained research development strategists.

Tackling Your F32

Fellowship Training Support

Tackling your F32 Writing Club will teach grant writing fundamentals and provide strategies to address the many components of the NIH NRSA F32 Fellowship application, including a detailed training, mentoring, and research plans. It will also provide a grant writing tool box with templates to guide your proposal development.

Leading Team-Science Teams

Half-day workshop provides guidance on the characteristics, processes, and dynamics that contribute to a multidisciplinary team’s success while engaging researchers to learn more about how team science should be initiated, conducted, and evaluated. 

R01 Countdown Program

4-month program that provides detailed weekly instructor and small group feedback on junior faculty’s NIH R-series grant submissions.

K Award Workshop

In this workshop, held over two days for two hours each day, Dr. Laure Aurelian discusses the different K award programs, and how to develop the best match for you. She will explain the reviewers’ expectations and the most common misconceptions and provide an overview of the strategies to be used in order to write a competitive proposal. 

SURGE I

A course for beginner Principal Investigators who are new to Stanford and are in their first term of appointment, who lead research group in basic or clinical departments. The course combines didactic overview of topics relevant to starting up a research lab, and hands-on workshops on necessary skills.
