Why did you pursue a career in medicine?

I think i always wanted to be in medicine, but i pursued a field in Hematology Oncology after having worked with an amazing researcher in high school who discovered the Factor IX gene. Having great mentors in my career really solidified why i worked in this field and why I have stayed in pediatric stem cell transplantation.  

What is a challenge you experience in pursuing a career in medicine?

Time is always the greatest challenge. Finding the time to read and learn and balance the other research responsibilities is always the greatest challenge.

What is the most fulfilling part of your work? 

The most fulfilling part for me has been working in this field and seeing the higher cure rates for diseases that have not had survivors in the past. Working in gene therapy, i now have a curative option to offer patients who had no therapies available before.

What strategies do you use to maintain your own well-being? 

Making time for family and yourself. I do yoga and walking my dog is always keep me sane.

What advice would you give someone starting in the field? 

Find great mentors and seek out opportunities that are available to you. Those opportunities will continue to open doors for you in the future.
