Mini Med School (Sept 28-Apr 22)

Sessions held monthly for Department of Pediatrics Staff

Mission Statement

The Stanford Pediatrics Mini Med School program will provide opportunities for staff in the Department of Pediatrics to further their understanding of some of today's most compelling health issues and how Stanford is working to improve the health of children.

Program Description

The Stanford Pediatrics Mini Med School program is open to all staff working in the Department. The program will include monthly lectures and interactive discussions from September to June during lunchtime, with the option of Zoom attendance for staff working outside the main campus. **Due to COVID restrictions, all sessions will take place via Zoom, until further notice.

Each annual cycle (September to June) will focus on one subspecialty in Pediatrics, with sessions devoted to key questions faced by the physicians working in that field. Staff will have the opportunity to learn more about the work Stanford Pediatrics faculty are doing and the challenges facing the healthcare system. The goal of this program is for attendees to feel stimulated to learn more, follow current discoveries, and strive to understand how such developments affect their quality of life on a personal level and as part of a global community.

Each year, the program will offer sessions addressing some aspect of each of these broad questions:

1.      What is the science behind the medicine and how does it inform our understanding of healthcare?

2.      What are the health behaviors and public health challenges facing our society today?

3.      What are the important issues related to our healthcare delivery models?

4.      What is Uniquely Stanford about the work our faculty are doing?

5.      What are current “hot topics” in medicine of which the public needs to be better informed?

Program Certificate

If staff are interested in earning a certificate of completion for the Mini Med School program, participants must attend 6 out of 8 sessions in one year.

Please contact us with any questions.  We hope to see you at one of the sessions!
