Patient & Family Engaged Medical Education

Our Vision

The patient, family, and caregiver perspectives are included at the exploration, development, and implementation stages of the curriculum design in medical education; moving the patients, families, and caregivers from the role of “end user” to that of designer of the hearts and minds of future clinicians.

Our Mission

To authentically engage patients, families, and caregivers in medical education programs.

Our Goals

  • PARTNER with an engaged group of volunteers to ensure patient-centered concepts are represented our programs
  • Create a COMMUNITY of patients, families, and caregivers who volunteer in medical education programs in the School of Medicine
  • Measure the IMPACT of patient, family, and caregiver engagement in our medical education program

"I am in awe of this program. That Stanford cares enough to provide such a program. It is a courageous choice. I felt useful and validated at the same time. It was great to learn about what students face."
