PERSPECTIVES ON PAIN

Medical Student Hannah Rasmussen's Med Scholars project explored how chronic headache pain affects the lives of patients—emotionally, socially, financially. Inspired by in-depth interviews with participants, the project includes a collection of photographs and paintings that aim to tell a visual story of the complex experience of chronic headaches. This project aims to use photography and painting as a lens into the patient experience of chronic headaches. For each of the project participants, the artist has created a triptych composed of 1) a photograph of the participant, 2) my painted interpretation of the participant’s headache experience, and 3) a monochrome panel in the color the participant assigned to their headache experience. Through these images I hope to increase connection and communication between the chronic headache, patient and medical communities.”
