Stanford Patient & Family Engaged Medical Education Program
Gifts to the Stanford Patient & Family Engaged Medical Education Program contribute to helping us move from FEELING to KNOWING that patient & family engagement in medical education programs is having an impact. Your gift provides support for patient-engaged medical education research, and educational programs that promote the development of person-centered future clinicians.
Examples of our current funding needs:
·Endowed Professorship in Patient & Family Engaged Medical Education:This will be a faculty leadership position responsible for further disseminating the culture and benefits of Patient & Family Engaged Medical Education across Stanford Medicine, and in national and global research partnerships.
·Patient & Family Partner Fellowships : These will be funded roles that increase the impact of Patient & Family engagement through advanced training in curriculum development. The Fellowship is a 40-hour introduction to curriculum development. Previously piloted at Stanford, the Fellowship opportunity will be available each year and provide an opportunity for several Patient & Family Partners to delve deeper into curriculum and program development. The Fellow will engage with faculty and administrators and will co-develop a project over the course of the internship.
·Fellowships for Stanford Students: These fellowships will offer mentoring and research support each summer. Students will collaborate with Stanford faculty and community partners on projects that assess the impact of current patient engaged medical education and community engagement programs and will contribute to the development of new and expanded programs that bridge the Patient & Family perspective and the professional and clinical skills development of undergraduate and graduate students.
·Faculty Development in Patient & Family Engaged Medical Education: Targeted faculty development will include supported time for faculty across disciplines to partner with patients & families to update existing curricula or create new curricula that include the patient & family perspectives. This training opportunity will fill the gap of skills and knowledge not available for most clinicians in their medical training and create a community of educators that is focused on including the patient and family perspective from the very inception of medical education programming.
·Academic Conference on Patient & Family Engaged Medical Education: Envisioned initially as a bi-ennial gathering of medical educators, leaders, patients & families, learners, and administrators who are doing the work of authentically partnering with patients and families in medical education. The conference will serve as a forum for learning about new programs, sharing best practices for building and measuring the impact of this work, and providing insight and inspiration for educators and schools who may be considering starting or expanding similar programs.
