About the new program

Led by Drs. Jody E. Hooper, Meagan Chambers, and Darren Salmi, Stanford Pathology faculty, the Stanford Autopsy Pathology Fellowship is a one-year, non-ACGME accredited, program that is designed to hone the knowledge and skills of autopsy interested residents to create quality Autopsy directors/pathologists, principally in academic settings, but also lending knowledge of the hospital autopsy to forensic practitioners. These individuals will also bring experience and skills to the creation and running of research autopsy programs. There will be dedicated time to pursue research in laboratories affiliated with the Research Autopsy Center as well as opportunities to experience other subspecialty training in elective time. Stanford has a recently built autopsy suite and co-located 24/7 Office of Decedent Affairs. Fellows will experience a large and varied autopsy caseload with opportunities to participate in resident training and to take ownership of their own cases and will have one on one training with experienced and dedicated Autopsy faculty. The Research Autopsy Center at Stanford is an all-disease, all-organ system program to perform autopsies on an urgent basis for collection of donated research samples, collaborating with over 50 investigative groups at Stanford. Fellows will learn about the creation and operation of research autopsy programs and be able to pursue individual projects.
