Stanford Pathology is proud to announce that Dr. Kimberly H. Allison will be delivering the Maude Abbot Lecture at the USCAP 2025 Conference. The lecture entitled "From Revolution to Evolution: HER2 Lessons for Predictive Biomarkers" will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025 5:00 – 5:50 PM BCEC Ballroom (Level 3) at the Boston Convention Center, Boston Massachusetts.
Dr. Allison is the inaugural Vice Chair of Education in the Department of Pathology at Stanford University and is an expert in breast pathology and breast cancer biomarkers. She co-directs the Stanford Breast Pathology Service and is the Program Director of the specialized Breast Pathology Fellowship. Her academic work focuses on advancing education and setting diagnostic standards in breast cancer, and she actively contributes to the establishment of practice guidelines for diagnostic testing.
Dr. Allison is involved in shaping breast cancer biomarker guidelines as the co-chair of the ASCO/CAP ER/PR and HER2 Testing in Breast Cancer Committees. She also contributes to diagnostic standards in breast cancer through her work with the WHO Breast Tumours classification, the International Collaboration on Cancer Reporting (ICCR), College of American Pathologists (CAP) Cancer Committee, ASCO Breast Cancer Guideline Advisory Group and the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC). Additionally, she serves as the sole pathologist on the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) Breast Cancer Treatment Guidelines Committee and is a member of the NCCN Biomarkers Resource Committee.
Dr. Allison’s educational background includes a B.A. in Molecular Biology from Princeton University and an M.D. from New York Medical College. She is board-certified in anatomical and clinical pathology, having completed her residency and fellowship at the University of Washington Medical Center, with a focus on breast and gynecologic pathology.
Her professional journey is deeply personal as well, as she has experienced life as a HER2 positive breast cancer patient, a perspective that inspired her to publish her memoir, “Red Sunshine”, and become an advocate for increasing public awareness of the crucial role of pathology in cancer care. Dr. Allison is a sought-after speaker, with experience delivering talks and courses to diverse audiences in pathology, medicine, and the general public.
Outside of her professional life, Dr. Allison is supported and entertained by her husband and three children. She enjoys hiking in the redwoods near her home, experimenting with oil, acrylic, and mixed media painting, and caring for her family’s array of pets, including dogs, cats, chickens, a bearded dragon, and tropical fish.
Dr. Allison follows in the steps of previous awardees Dr. Dorfman (1993) and Dr. Kempson (1999).
