Chronic Pain and Treatment Decisions

About the Study

The goal of this study is to learn what is important to patients when they weigh the risks and benefits of different kinds of pain treatments. The knowledge gained from this study will help researchers and clinicians understand how patients make decisions between opioid, non-opioid, and other pain treatments.

The study consists of a 15–30-minute online survey that you can complete from the comfort of your own home. Note: It can only be completed on a desktop or laptop. It cannot be completed on a phone or tablet.


People with chronic pain who are:

  • Taking opioid medications
  • Not taking opioid medication
  • Previously used opioids but aren’t any longer

Benefits of Participation

Participants will not receive direct benefit from participation in this study, but the scientific knowledge gained will help researchers better understand what is important to patients when choosing between different treatments for pain.
