As Our Voice projects span increasingly diverse topics, populations, environments, and research questions, our Global Research Network has co-developed a shared definition of the 6 core values that inform and guide our work.

Health Equity

What it means for us: The ultimate goal is to help build communities in which all members to have the opportunity to live a healthy and vital life, regardless of economic or social circumstances. Achieving this goal involves a commitment to inclusivity and fairness in local decision-making.

Community-driven

What it means for us: To the greatest extent possible, community residents and stakeholders drive project focus, design, data collection, and identification of solutions and strategies for change.

Globally Relevant

Global relevance

What it means for us: Project design and methodologies strive to be relevant and effective across a variety of cultures and settings to more deeply understand health equity and impacts of citizen science at a global level.

Action-oriented

What it means for us: Projects are developed and conducted with the purpose of generating data-driven strategies and solutions and catalyzing health-promoting change at a community level.

Strengths-based

What it means for us: Data collection strategies are designed to capture local assets as well as challenges, to celebrate the knowledge and expertise of community members about their own local environments, and to support citizen scientists in generating positive solutions and strategies for health-promoting change at a community level.

Evidence-based

What it means for us: A cross-initiative commitment to scientific rigor, building knowledge, and adapting practices based to integrate the best available evidence.
