"Open Streets" In Latin America: Evaluating the Positive and Challenging Aspects of Community-Wide Recreational Activities and Events in Colombia and Chile

Goals
Evaluate both the facilitators and barreirs of the Ciclovía ("Open Streets") events that occur in Bogotá, Colombia on Sundays and holidays
The same protocol was adapted in San Francisco, CA, San Jose, CA and Temuco, Chile
Outcomes
Themes reported during the Ciclovía days focused on safety, revitalization of public space and availability of fruits
Participants perceived that the Ciclovía turned the streets into a safer, more inclusive environment for all
Our Voice Impact
"This experience has changed my life. I see inadequacies everywhere I go as it relates to pedestrian access and safety. I even stop [at] construction sites to remind them to be considerate of the handicapped in our community. Thank you all so much for this awareness and empowerment to require change."
