Who are Promotoras/Community Health Workers?

Promotoras/community health workers (P/CHWs) are an innovative workforce show to be crucial to community partners in health equity research. P/CHWs are trusted messengers with demonstrated capacity to address inequities in historically marginalized and underserved communities.

Engaging P/CHWs as community partners and research advisors is crucial to creating a systematic body of work aiming to advance the health and wellbeing of communities and a promising workforce.

Capacity Development

Through academic-community partnerships we have co-developed workshops to offer support and collective learning to P/CHWs. Workshop topics include basic needs resource navigation and mental health.

Educational Materials

Materials are co-designed with community partners to disseminate culturally and linguistically relevant health information on specific health conditions, for example the COVID-19 pandemic (e.g., masking, testing, vaccines, etc.), and mental health resources.

Research

Publications disseminate findings from community-academic collaborations on studies and initiatives designed to continue contributing to the science of community engaged research.

Community of Practice

The P/CHW consulting group leverages the experience of promotoras/community health workers from the Bay Area to offer feedback and advise on research directly impacting underserved communities (e.g., Latinx, immigrant, impoverished, etc.).
