Coping with Caregiving

The Coping with Caregiving workbook and class focuses on improving caregiver well-being by teaching strategies to use when caregiving responsibilities become stressful, and how to manage the difficult behaviors associated with their relative’s memory problems.  Material also reviews skills to improve your sense of well-being, including ways to relax and increase the pleasure in your daily life.

The course is made up of five modules:

  • Class 1:  An introduction to the course with an emphasis on learning about dementia, caregiver stress and understanding behaviors.
  • Classes 2-5: Skills for caregivers to manage the problem behaviors that are associated with their relative’s memory problems.
  • Classes 6-8 & 11-12: Skills for caregivers to take better care of themselves including changing unhelpful thoughts and increasing communication, assertiveness, relaxation, and pleasant activities.
  • Classes 9-10: Caregiver planning for the future needs of their loved one
  • Class 13: Helpful hints for maintaining the course material and skills over time.
