Effects of MealEnders on Food Intake

A group from the Stanford Prevention Research Center collaborated with Willpower Labs, Inc. to conduct a study to examine the effects of MealEnders, a mindfulness and behavioral tool that uses sensory cues, on participants’ eating behavior.

Participation in this study required: attending 3 in-person group meetings, maintaining dietary food records during the 4-week study, and using MealEnders to help terminate eating.

Eligible Participants

Eligible candidates for this study meet the following criteria:

  • 18 years of age or older and in generally good health
  • Have a BMI between 27 - 40
  • Do not currently have any chronic diseases
  • Have had stable weight for at least 2 months

Conclusions

Study participants reported consuming significantly fewer calories while using the MealEnders product—a ~12% reduction relative to pre-study levels—suggesting that this can be a beneficial addition to weight management efforts. Trends in the data suggest, that despite reporting lower calorie intake, participants did not feel hungry or deprived. Calorie reduction during the week post intervention was 200kcalories fewer a day. Based on the reported sustained decrease in caloric intake, MealEnders may have an enduring effect on modifying eating behavior.
