Stanford Medicine’s annual awards celebrate excellence in teaching, patient care and more

More than 60 awards were given to faculty, staff, residents and students at Stanford Medicine in recognition of their outstanding contributions during the 2024-2025 academic year.

Bryant Lin, MD, clinical professor of primary care and population health, received the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation Teaching Award for Outstanding and Innovative Contributions to Medical Education.

Erin Holsinger, MD, clinical assistant professor of pediatrics; Asheen Rama, MD, clinical associate professor of anesthesiology, perioperative and pain medicine; and Samantha Wang, MD, clinical associate professor of medicine, were awarded the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation Award for Excellence in Preclinical Teaching.

Nicole Arkin, MD, clinical assistant professor of anesthesiology, perioperative and pain medicine; Jeffrey Dunn, MD, clinical professor of adult neurology; and Divy Ravindranath, MD, clinical associate professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences, received the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation Award for Excellence in Clerkship Teaching.

Miguel Angeles, MD, clinical assistant professor of anatomy; Tobias Hays, MD, adjunct clinical instructor in pediatrics; and Susan Jameson, PA-C, clinical professor of pediatric cardiology, were honored with the Excellence in Preclinical Teaching Award.

Chad Anderson, MD, clinical assistant professor of primary care and population health, and Olivia Sawh, PA-C, clinical assistant professor of primary care and population health, earned the Excellence in Clinical Teaching Award.

Erica Cahill, MD, clinical associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology, received the Best Lecture recognition.

MD-PhD student Qusay Omran was honored with the Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award.

Clifford Sheckter, MD, assistant professor of plastic and reconstructive surgery (Santa Clara Valley Medical Center), was named Outstanding Community Clinic Preceptor, Preclinical Instruction.

Shirley Chan, MD, senior associate dean for medical school education and clinical instructor (Santa Clara Valley Medical Center), was named Outstanding Community Clinic Preceptor, Clinical Instruction.

Mydili Maniam-Mohan, MD, and Daniel McCarthy, PA-C, were honored with the Outstanding Underserved Area Preceptor award.

Karim Sallam, MD, assistant professor of cardiovascular medicine, received the Alwin C. Rambar-James BD Mark Award for Excellence in Patient Care.

Sushma Bharadwaj, MD, clinical assistant professor of blood and marrow transplantation; Kevin Chi, MD, clinical associate professor of pediatrics; and Syed Hameed, MD, the David L. Gregg, MD Professor and a professor of surgery, received the Arthur L. Bloomfield Award in Recognition of Excellence in the Teaching of Clinical Medicine.

Anuj Aggarwal, MD, clinical assistant professor of anesthesiology, perioperative and pain medicine, was honored with the Franklin G. Ebaugh, Jr. Award for Excellence in Advising Medical Students.

Moises Gallegos, MD, clinical associate professor of emergency medicine, was given the Lawrence H. Mathers Award for Exceptional Commitment to Teaching and Active Involvement in Medical Student Education.

Jacqueline Tai-Edmonds, MD, clinical associate director of primary care and population health, received the Award for Excellence in Promotion of the Learning Environment and Student Wellness.

Xinshu She, MD, clinical associate professor of pediatrics, was honored with the Award for Excellence in Promotion of Diversity and Societal Citizenship.

Julieta Gabiola, MD, clinical professor of primary care and population health, was given the Award for Outstanding Contribution to Promoting Health Equity and Social Justice.

Margaret Govea, director of medical student wellness, received the Medical Education Staff Service Award.

Stephanie Chamberlain, manager for the Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies program, was honored with the MSPA Staff Service Award.

Eric Ip, PharmD, clinical professor of primary care and population health, was given the Rhonda L. Larsen Professionalism and Leadership Award.

Dave Chang, MD, clinical associate professor of primary care and population health, received the Award for Exceptional Contributions to Service-Learning.

Patricia Fast, MD, adjust clinical associate professor of pediatric infectious diseases, was honored with the Walt Newman Award for Exceptional Community Service.

The Gold Humanism Honor Society Inductees for this year are medical students Sahar Caravan, Michelle Chang, Mira Cheng, Max Clary, Emily He, Marzan Hamid, Henna Hundal, Nadia Kirmani, Taimur Kouser, Carmel McCollough, Tara Murty, Binisha Patel, Dina Shiera, Willemijn van Deursen and Brandon Wesley.

Carlie Arbaugh, MD, resident in surgery; Tim Gemesi, MD, resident in obstetrics and gynecology; Danny Linggonegro, MD, resident in dermatology; Evan Mullen, MD, resident in internal medicine; Nina Shevzov-Zebrun, MD, resident in pediatrics; and Yi Zhang, MD, resident in neurosurgery, received the Arnold P. Gold Foundation Award for Humanism and Excellence in Teaching.

The Oscar Salvatierra Award for Exceptional Service to Stanford Medical Students and the School of Medicine went to Neil Gesundheit, MD, professor of endocrinology, gerontology and metabolism and the George DeForest Barnett Professorship III in Medicine, and to Lars Osterberg, MD, professor of primary care and population health.

Kathryn (Katie) Hanson, PhD candidate in genetics, received the Student Inclusive Teaching Award.

Camilo Espinosa Bernal, PhD candidate in immunology, and Youlim Kim, PhD candidate in microbiology and immunology, were honored with the Student Excellence in Advocacy Award.

Mary DeFeo, PhD candidate in microbiology and immunology, and Brenda Yu, PhD candidate in biophysics, received the Student Excellence in Community Impact Award.

Lauren Goins, PhD, assistant professor of developmental biology, and Priscilla Li-Ning Yang, PhD, professor of microbiology and immunology, won the Faculty Inclusive Mentorship and Training Award.

Kalai Diamond, educational program director in neurosciences, and Veronica Schulte, operations and student services manager at the Clinical Excellence Research Center, were given the Staff Inclusive Mentorship and Training Award.
