Stanford Health Care has launched a six-year, $1.2 billion project to renovate or rebuild parts of the Stanford Hospital complex at 300 Pasteur Drive in Palo Alto, California.
“The hospital redesign will enhance the experience for both patients and staff,” said Helen Wilmot, vice president of facilities, services and planning for Stanford Health Care.
The building complex will remain open throughout the project, which will enhance patient care facilities.
“This is a top-to-bottom, complete redo of the hospital to reach new modernization standards,” said Carlos Villalva, administrative director of capital initiatives for Stanford Health Care, including the renewal program.
The renewal project aims to create a more seamless environment with the inpatient hospital building at 500 Pasteur Drive, which opened last year.
Among other things, the plans for the project call for a dedicated cancer center; two new four-story building extensions with 58 private patient rooms; 21 renovated operating and procedure rooms with advanced medical technology; and a redesigned pediatric emergency department that’s more kid-friendly.
“The hospital at 300 Pasteur Drive continues to provide a significant portion of the care for patients at Stanford,” Wilmot said. “The building complex will stand tall as a worthy partner to the new hospital for patient care delivery in the decades ahead.”
Among other features of the project:
· All structures will meet California seismic-safety standards.
· Pre- and post-surgery bays will double in number from 36 to 72 bays.
· A 30-bed inpatient psychiatric unit will be created.
· The first-floor atrium will be redesigned to include family spaces and amenities.
· All patient rooms will be single-occupancy, with a few exceptions in the in-patient psychiatry unit.
Construction activities have begun both in front and in the back of the building. Construction zones are fenced off, and truck and heavy-equipment traffic can be expected along Pasteur Drive.
