How to balance the benefits and costs of prescription opioids will be the topic of the next Stanford Health Policy Forum.
The forum, which is free and open to the public, will run from 12:30-2 p.m. April 9 in Berg Hall.
Prescription opioids provide much-needed relief to people in acute pain, but are also widely misused, leading to addiction and over 1,000 overdose deaths per month. Discussing the issue will be Anna Lembke, MD, assistant professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences, and Sean Mackey, MD, PhD, professor of anesthesiology, perioperative and pain medicine.
The event will be moderated by Paul Costello, chief communications officer for the School of Medicine.
