Women's History Month 2023

In celebration of Women's History Month, we would like to take this opportunity to recognize and honor the contributions of women. Throughout history, women have made significant contributions to medicine and biomedical research that have often gone unrecognized. Women have played a critical role in shaping the world we live in today, breaking down barriers and paving the way for future generations.

We would like to spotlight some of the incredible women of Stanford Neurosurgery. Join us as we celebrate Women's History Month and shine a light on these remarkable women.

How did you decide on a career in neuroscience/neurosurgery and why did you choose your area of study?

Coming from an engineering undergrad, I wanted a field that brought me closer to direct patient care and quickly realized I enjoyed caring for patients and their families through some of the most challenging medical conditions they face. And I LOVED being in the OR. Neurosurgery is the perfect field for that, all while getting to do some really cool surgeries.

Can you tell us a little more about your research interests?

I do global neurosurgery work! My research focuses on increasing neurosurgical capacity in low-resource settings. I’m particularly interested in increasing access to open and endovascular neurosurgery in South America.

What kind of activities or hobbies do you pursue outside of work?

When I’m not working, I’m mostly spending time with my husband, dog, and friends. I love traveling and dancing salsa/bachata/merengue
