Preclinical students, join the team! We welcome you to gain early clinical experiences in neurology as part of your course or independently shadowing with us! You can work alongside neurologists to learn from our patients. Put your developing physical exam skills and knowledge into the context of diagnosing and treating patients and gain valuable insight into the field of neurology and its many subspecialities. In this final frontier of medicine we still base treatment on the clinical encounter, and this is your chance to try thinking like a neurologist. Once we can invite you back to clinical experiences, we can arrange for you to shadow our clinical encounters and even our diagnostic tests like EEG, EMG/NCS, botulinum toxin injections, lumbar puncture, and autonomic testing. Contact us to express your interest and we can arrange for individualized experience for you! Please send your name, medical school year, areas of interest within neurology, and times when you might be available to shadow (am/pm and day of week) to the email below, and we will get back to you with possible opportunities.

With high morbidity worldwide and a deficit of neurologists, our patients need us to be their advocates! Advocacy can mean many things in neurology including global and public health works, legislative work at state and national societies, fundraising and increasing education and awareness for our patients locally, and focusing on health disparities. Neurology is a field of advocacy in all definitions of the word! Please contact us if you have an interest in any of these domains and we will get you involved!

The faculty of the department of Neurology and Neurological Sciences at Stanford School of Medicine are the leaders in the school, nationally, and internationally in clinical and research activities of all the neurologic subspecialties and in diversity, advocacy, and medical education. Many faculty have participated in leadership development and are thrilled to help you become the next generation of leaders!

We are thrilled to guide you in a journey of exploring the field of neurology at all stages of your training. As a preclinical student, we hope to expose you to research (see our research tab), increased clinical experiences (see "Education"), and advocacy (see "Advocacy"). We can also help you make connections with our incredible faculty, fellows, and residents to ask for more personalized mentorship. Please reach out to us if you are interested.

For clinical students who think they may want to apply to neurology, please let us know! We can discuss the process of setting up your sub-internship and guide you through the entire application and interview process with our step by step approach. We will be hosting regular mentoring sessions throughout the year and are here to support you at each step.
