Overview and Meaning
Attend occurs within the context of search and exploration, and indicates the first time the animal locates a stimulus of potential interest. The animal will either approach and investigate the stimulus, or return to search.
Description
The mouse, from a short distance away, will direct its attention towards a stimulus, indicated by pause in locomotion, and a fixation of the eyes and ears on the stimulus.

Exploration occurs in three main contexts: Social, Food, and Environmental. However, the context is not normally apparent until the investigation stage of the behavior chain.
