Amyloid PET imaging in self-identified non-Hispanic Blacks from the Anti-Amyloid in Asymptomatic Alzheimer’s Disease (A4) Study

Dr. Kacie Deters, a postdoctoral fellow in the Mormino Lab, shows reduced rates of elevated amyloid in older clinically normal individuals that self-identify as Black.  Further, she demonstrates increased exclusion from the study procedures in this group, highlighting concerns about selection bias in PET imaging studies of normal aging. This work has important implications for the recruitment and retention of more representative research participants into studies of Alzheimer's disease and human aging.
