Meena Seshamani

Meena Seshamani, MD, PhD, is director of the Center for Medicare at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) in the Biden administration, playing a pivotal role in shaping policies and strategies that enhance the health of the 66 million people covered by the government insurance program for seniors. An accomplished health care leader, Seshamani’s career has spanned government, industry, and clinical care, with a focus on advancing health care innovation and addressing health disparities. Prior to her role at CMS, she served as vice president of clinical care transformation at MedStar Health, leading the value-based care strategy for the 10-hospital, 300-clinic system based in the Washington D.C. Metro Area. Seshamani also has held several leadership positions in the public sector, including director of the federal Office of Health Reform in the Obama administration, where she guided implementation of the Affordable Care Act. Board certified in otolaryngology, Seshamani has practiced as a head and neck surgeon and served as assistant professor at Georgetown University School of Medicine. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business economics from Brown University; a medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine; and a PhD in health economics from the University of Oxford.
