Our Research
Research in the Microbiology & Immunology Department focuses on microbe-host and microbe-microbe interactions. Specifically we are interested in how microbes survive, interact, and affect their host and how the host immune system distinguishes between self, friend (commensal microbes) and foe (pathogenic microbes). The department is highly interactive with an intensely collaborative environment as one of the 14 Biosciences PhD Home Programs in the School of Medicine.
Our research can be broadly categorized by focus area: Bacteria, the Microbiome, Protists, Viruses & Phages and the Immune System & Stem Cells. Many research groups fall into multiple categories or collaborate across categories that connect their expertise. Find out more about our research in these subcategories and lab websites.
