Welcome to the Meffre Lab

We explore the molecular and cellular origins of autoimmune disorders. Leveraging humanized mice and rare genetic samples, we study how autoreactive B cells are produced and promote autoimmunity. Our research by Elif Çakan has shown that TLR9 plays an essential role in the establishment of central B cell tolerance and thereby challenged the B-cell receptor-centric paradigm of its regulation. Our ultimate goal is to develop novel strategies to restore impaired central and peripheral B cell tolerance checkpoints in patients with autoimmune syndromes and thwart autoimmunity.

Our Research

From central selection to the periphery, we’re working at the forefront of human B cell tolerance.
