Speaker
Dr. Hao Gao, Ph.D., Associate Professor and Director of Physics Research in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Kansas Cancer Center (KUMC)
Dr. Gao is an Associate Professor and Director of Physics Research in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Kansas Cancer Center (KUMC). Dr. Gao’s research laboratory at KUMC is currently being funded by an NIH R37 MERIT grant, a KUCC physicist-scientist recruiting grant, and a NIH R01 grant, with research interests on biology-enhanced RT such as SFRT and FLASH, treatment planning, on-board imaging, particle therapy, mathematical modeling, data mining and deep learning for RT, and recent research awards including PTCOG 2021 Michael Goitein Best Abstract Award in Physics, ASTRO 2022 Basic/Translational Science Award (Senior - Physics), PTCOG-NA 2023 The Best Abstract Award in Physics, ASTRO 2023 Basic/Translational Science Award (Senior - Physics), and AAPM 2023 John S. Laughlin Early-Career Scientist Award.
Abstract
This talk will cover our recent works on SFRT treatment planning and proton minibeam system. The general SFRT works will cover PVDR optimization, lattice position optimization, scissor-beam-based proton GRID method, and ARC-based proton LATTICE method. The minibeam works will cover the system development, adaptive dose calculation and treatment planning, and mixed-collimator optimization.
