Program Directors

Sarita Khemani, MD

Co-Director

Dr. Khemani is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Division of Hospital Medicine at Stanford University Medical School. She is passionate about patient care and medical education. Her clinical responsibilities involve perioperative medical management of Neurosurgery, Orthopedics and Colorectal surgery patients. She is actively involved in the teaching of neurosurgery and medicine residents. Dr. Khemani is the director of perioperative medicine elective rotation for the medical residents. As part of the Practice of Medicine course, she does bedside teaching sessions with second year medical students. She frequently presents at the resident noon conferences and physician assistant student lecture series. Dr. Khemani is excited to pass along her medical mentorship to a new batch of students every summer through Stanford-CSI program!

Saloni Maharaj, MD

Associate Director

Dr. Maharaj is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of Hospital Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine. Her clinical focus is in perioperative medicine where she cares for medically complex patients on orthopedics, neurosurgery, and otolaryngology. Dr. Maharaj has a love for teaching and is currently the clerkship director for the internal medicine resident and geriatric medicine fellow clerkship rotation with surgical co-management. She also teaches an elective in the medical school to help prepare second year medical students to be successful in their third-year clerkships. She also plays an active role in the Society of General Internal Medicine California-Hawaii region and will hold the role of President-Elect and then President in 2022-2023 and won the award for Excellence in Clinician Education in 2021. She is an enthusiastic educator and cannot wait to work with all the CSI students in the classroom and at the bedside to build their future careers!

Eva Weinlander, MD

Co-Director

Dr. Weinlander is a Clinical Professor of Family Medicine in the Division of Primary Care and Population Health at Stanford University Medical School. She is a seasoned family medicine physician with a passion for high quality primary care, medical education, primary care research and health care professional wellness. For the last 15 years she has been the Director for the Continuity of Care clerkship but recently transitioned to a new role as Director of Faculty Wellness for Primary Care and Population Health. She also directs the annual McGann Women and Health Lecture Series which is a credit class for medical students and undergrads as well as open to the general public. She has a passion for teaching and working side-by-side students in both the classroom and the clinic, which makes her summers with the Stanford-CSI community so special!

Takudzwa Shumba, MD

Associate Director

Dr. Shumba is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Division of Primary Care and Population Health (PCPH) at Stanford University School of Medicine. She is a family medicine clinician-educator with particular interests in global health, preventative medicine, women's health, and integrative medicine. Prior to beginning medical school at Stanford, she completed a Master's in Public Health at Yale, with a focus in global health. She has worked on health projects in Zimbabwe, Hong Kong, mainland China and Kenya. She is passionate about health equity and social justice locally and globally.

She is Co-director of the Leadership Education in Advancing Diversity (LEAD) program, Course Director of the undergraduate seminar “Decolonizing Global Health” and former Co-Director of "Social and Environmental Determinants of Health" elective. She is a California Health Care Foundation (CHCF) Fellow (2020-2022) and Presidential Leadership Scholar (2022) and served as the PCPH Division Global Health faculty lead (2019-2023) and PCPH DEI faculty lead (2020-2023).

Dr. Rona Hu is a Clinical Professor, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences & Medical Director of Acute Psychiatric Inpatient Unit.

Dr. Kate Luenprakansit is a Clinical Assistant Professor, Hospital Medicine and Bioethics Committee Member.
