SoM Faculty, Staff, Clinical Educator Non-Degree Status Enrollment

Authorized School of Medicine (SoM) faculty, fellows, instructors, and clinical educators with staff status may apply to enroll in approved SoM courses to receive training and academic credit.  Once authorized, participants will be granted a non-degree enrollment status for the approved course. Per unit graduate tuition plus applicable fees will be assessed for the course enrollment. In some cases external funding sources, such as training grants, can be applied to the tuition costs for approved course(s).  

Eligibility:

  • Only Stanford Medicine faculty, fellows, instructors, and clinical educators with staff status are eligible.
  • Participants must have an equivalent to a U.S. Bachelor's degree from a U.S. college or university accredited by a regional accrediting association. Non-U.S. participants must hold the equivalent of a U.S. Bachelor's degree from a college or university of recognized standing. 
  • Non-degree students may enroll in a minimum units of 3 units and a maximum of 10 units per quarter.
  • All courses must be taught in the School of Medicine. Enrollment is subject to permission by the instructor. MD required courses and clerkships are not eligible.  

 

Tuition & Fees:

  • Tuition is assessed at the per unit graduate tuition rate for a minimum of 3 units ($1207/unit in 2021-22).
  • A one-time non-degree status document fee for transcripts ($125) applies.
  • If only enrolling in non-degree course(s), request an exemption for the quarterly health services fee by filing a Service Now request. Otherwise the Campus Health Services fee will be assessed.
  • After the application is reviewed and processed, the student bill will be updated with the tuition and fees. For external funding sources, non-degree students should consult with the student services administrator in their department.
     

Application Instructions:

  • Complete the Non-Degree Enrollment Request Form. Authorization will require approvals from the course instructor, department's student services administrator, and participant's supervisor.
  • Submit the request form at least two weeks prior to the Preliminary Study List deadline, per the academic calendar for the applicable quarter.  Notification of final approval will come from the School of Medicine Registrar's Office, medregistrar@stanford.edu.
