MCP Peer Mentor Program

Mission of the Peer Mentor Program

The mission of the MCP Peer Mentor Program (PMP) is to support a community of diverse individuals in the department through peer-to-peer mentoring. We strive to provide new trainees (staff, graduate students, and post-doctoral fellows) with peer support that will enhance their learning, empower their personal and professional growth, and increase their sense of belonging in the MCP community. This program will build intentional relationships between trainees in the department while also providing senior trainees with experience in training and mentoring.  In addition, our goal is to share knowledge, skills, information, and various perspectives with our trainees by hosting personal and career development workshops.

Role of Peer Mentors

Peer mentors assist first- and second-year members of the MCP community (staff, graduate students, and postdocs) in their transition to Stanford MCP. Mentors meet once per month with their mentees and work through the mentoring curriculum, as well as address other needs as they arise. Through these meetings, peer mentors provide regular check-ins, support their mentees in identifying and accessing support resources, facilitate positive social engagement, and more. Mentors will receive training before starting the mentoring relationship and are also given ongoing training and supervision throughout the year.
