Faculty Scholar Program
Accepting Applications
The MCHRI Faculty Scholars Endowments aim to support faculty with established research programs dedicated to maternal or child health research.
Important Note for UML Applicants:
UML applicants may only apply for either the Harman Award or the Faculty Scholar Award, not both. Applications submitted to both mechanisms may not be accepted.
MCHRI Faculty Scholar Awards provide funding for mid-to-late-stage Assistant, or early-stage Associate Professor with appointments in the Non-Tenure Line, Research (NTLR), University Tenure Line (UTL) or University Medical Line (UML).
- $100,000 per year for up to 5 years;
- The funds should be used primarily to support the PI’s salary and benefits, and secondarily to support research expenses.
To be eligible for the award, the applicant must meet these criteria:
- Hold an appointment as NTLR, UTL, or UML faculty.
- Be a member of MCHRI. Apply for membership here.
- Have a demonstrated track record of the majority of research focused uniquely on maternal or child health.
- Not have previously received or currently hold a Stanford-owned Faculty Scholar Award, MCHRI Harman Award, or MCHRI Faculty Scholar Award.
Selection Criteria:
Applications will be evaluated based on the following:
- Career Development: Priority given to individuals at a critical juncture in their academic career where the Faculty Scholar Award can help secure or bridge extramural funding.
- Maternal and Child Health Impact: Demonstrated significance of the applicant’s research on maternal and child health.
- Translational Potential: Potential for translating research findings into clinical or population health impact.
- Funding Track Record: Evidence of securing extramural funding, including:
- Current funding and progress on grants (e.g. R21, R01 or equivalent (DP2) under development or review.
