"NIH K awards are extremely valuable in supporting the salary and career of junior investigators, but do not provide enough support for the research costs, and the additional help from the MCHRI is crucial to being able to conduct the proposed research. I look forward to using these funds in my research focused on preventing graft-versus-host disease, which causes significant morbidity and mortality in children undergoing stem cell transplantation. My overall goal is to make stem cell transplantation a safer way to cure cancer and other blood diseases."
