Amanda is an investor on the Health Team at Emerson Collective, a social change organization founded by Laurene Powell Jobs thatleverages policy, philanthropy, and venture investing
to renew some of society’s most calcified systems through innovation. The venture arm of the Health Team primarily makes early stage investments in the oncology space -the narrow focus enabling their deep and targeted network, robust set of capabilities, and unique insight into the future of cancer care. Amanda also serves as the co-lead for the Healthcare Vertical at the Emerging Venture Capital Association, and as a judge and board member for the US Figure Skating Association. Prior to Emerson Collective, Amanda studied neuroscience at Brown University -working in the Assad Lab on the optogenetic investigation of neural rhythms and learning, as an EMT, and co-founded a cystic fibrosis focused company that reduces bacterial growth on nebulizers. In her free time, you will find her hiking with her pug, ice skating, and slowly progressing towards her private pilot’s license!
Bernardita Guridi Ruiz-Tagle
Bernardita is an Industrial Engineering with experience in hospital management. Before coming to the US in 2018, she worked in a leading tertiary hospital in
Chile developing performance improvement initiatives for clinical and administrative services. She defines her role as “being a bridge” at the intersection of technology and healthcare delivery, connecting both worlds to use technology tools effectively. She continues collaborating with Chilean Healthcare Institutions by advising health-tech startups in mentoring sessions. Her professional interests include new clinical care models, health IT implementation, and data management.
Over the past 20 years Carlene has been fortunate to gain a strong foundation of clinical experience from working in the ICU/CCU, Home Health, and Ambulatory Clinic with environments that
include telemedicine, remote patient monitoring for implanted devices and digital health. She was recently an Operations Manager at Stanford Healthcare, for the past 2 ½ years, within the Cardiovascular Health Service Line overseeing the Cardiodiagnostics department and Arrhythmia Service. A large degree of her work has been involved with clinical platform integrations with the EMR and development of the operational foundation for implementation. She has a deep passion for blending and maximizing digital health and technology to provide value-based care, elevating patient engagement, improving quality and outcomes and developing operational strategies with hopes to improve equity and access for patients. She finds herself to also be a relentless leader who leads with compassion, empathy and is a strong supporter for the expansion of Womxn as healthcare leaders. COVID19 has been such a historic moment in history thus far, and Carlene is extremely excited how it continues to serve as the catalyst for technology and innovation for the healthcare ecosystem.
Elyse Ruan is a senior consultant on the Digital Health Care Integration (DHCI) team at Stanford Health Care. She is passionate about driving strategic transformations to advance healthcare
innovations and improve patient experience. Prior to joining Stanford, she works as a management consultant across payer, provider, and biotech sectors in both developed and emerging markets. When not working, Elyse enjoys reading, traveling, chasing sunsets, and petting other people’s dogs.
Hiroshi is currently the Director of Redevelopment Office for Showa University Fujigaoka Hospital and from 2016-2020 was Vice President, Showa University Hospital. He led sixty anesthesiologists,
intensivists, and pain physicians and covered four university-affiliated hospitals. As vice-president, in charge of safety management, infection control, quality management of care and patient services. He introduced the tele-medicine ICU system to cover five critical care units in two hospitals, which are the first in Asia, and was assigned as the director of redevelopment project of the town of Fujigaoka, the joint development with railroad company, Tokyu, and the municipal government, the City of Yokohama.
Joe Gayk joins the MCiM program with a decade of experience in health professions education and regulatory affairs. He serves as the Director of Strategic Initiatives for Medical Education in the Stanford
School of Medicine where, among other initiatives, he is developing a new quality improvement system for the medical school. In his spare time, Joe serves as a program development consultant. He is excited to harness his experience in the MCiM program to develop expertise in designing effective improvement systems and utilizing new technologies, all to support a more equitable and efficient health care system.
Madeleine recently transitioned into the healthcare technology industry, where she works to optimize patient and provider experiences on the company's telemedicine platform. Prior to
that, she was working in healthcare marketing/advertising, where she helped to oversee the digital tactic creation across an oncology campaign portfolio. She is passionate about leveraging technology to improve costs, quality, and access to healthcare. Madeleine graduated from Barnard College in 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.
Megan graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a major in Jewish Studies and a minor in Computer Science. She has been working at the healthcare tech company Flatiron Health for the last
5 years where she manages a team of Technical Solutions Engineers. Megan currently lives in Williamsburg, Brooklyn with her Mini Australian Shepherd, Leroy. In her free time, she enjoys reading and exploring the city. She is looking forward to learning more about the healthcare technology landscape, and specifically is interested in understanding the many interoperability challenges facing healthcare systems today.
Rachna Saralkar has been working in the Bay Area community for the last 6 years after completing her Psychiatry Residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital. She has built a breadth of
experience in mental health treatment through an outpatient community practice, inpatient service, psychiatric emergency services, and consult liaison, both in-person and via tele-medicine. She enjoys collaborative work, public speaking and education. Rachna is excited to leverage the technical, management and business skills from MCiM to improve quality and access to care for patients and transform the medical industry to a sustainable model for physicians.
Robin has over 10 years of experience in the tech industry, working in both publicly traded company and start-ups, and she specializes in bridging gaps between tech and business. Growing up in a family of
in a family of doctors, Robin truly believes that technology can help reduce costs and improve the quality of health care services. Robin was born in China and received her B.S. from Cornell University. Robin considers herself not only bilingual but also bicultural. Robin has been studying Spanish and Japanese during COVID, and she is looking forward to getting back to her love of traveling, fitness, and food this year.
Sarah is the Director of Product at Parsley Health, a telemedicine company focused on treating chronic disease. Previously, she was a Product Manager at SurveyMonkey and an investment banker.
Her passion lies in nutrition and lifestyle changes to help improve chronic disease, after a years long process to recover from her own debilitating illness.
Tiffany Yu is a Management Consultant at Kaiser Permanente, where she focuses on utilization optimization, process improvement, and innovation for the largest health plan in California.
Previously, Tiffany served as a distinguished fellow for the National Institutes of Health and United States Department of Health and Human Services. Tiffany is passionate in improving health outcomes and quality of life, with past advocacy work centered in minority health, food security, Asian American mental health, and female leadership. She is nationally recognized as a Forbes Under 30 Scholar and a rising Gen-Z changemaker. Tiffany graduated cum laude from UC Berkeley with Bachelor’s Degrees in Data Science and Public Health with a Certificate in Entrepreneurship and Technology. In her free time, she enjoys visiting art museums and trying new restaurants in the Bay Area. She is thrilled to join the inaugural cohort of Stanford’s Clinical Informatics Management Program!

commercializing and scaling innovative ideas, hiring talent, securing funding, strategy, and crisis management. With purpose, she brings ideas to fruition, builds partnerships and teams, and attracts investors. She thinks outside the box, sees opportunities in uncommon places, unveils common denominators across sectors and departments, builds trusting teams, and finds solutions to get past log-jams.
Viveka serves as an Advisor to ACCESS Health International and Integrum AB, is the western region lead for OPEN, a national network advancing health and social equity, and serves on the Maternal Child & Adolescent Health Advisory Board to the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors. She served as the CEO of the PDI Surgery Center for 14 years from its inception as a private-public partnership start-up, through an M&A, and scaling. Tapped from the practice of law, her strong communication skills helped articulate vision, raise private and government funds, recruit team, and launch PDI. PDI gained national recognition as a sustainable model for specialty services delivery.
Ashwin Nayak is currently a third-year Internal Medicine resident physician at Stanford. This summer, he will join the faculty of Stanford’s Department of Medicine
as a Clinical Assistant Professor, where he will practice clinically as an academic hospitalist. Dr. Nayak is passionate about using artificial intelligence and digital health to provide high-value care. He has deep research and technical experience in these domains. In medical school, he created a mobile application to improve medication adherence in patients with cancer. Recently, he developed a deep learning algorithm that accurately diagnoses pericardial effusion on echocardiography videos.
Currently, he is running a novel digital health clinical trial that is investigating the use of a voice assistant to manage insulin in patients with diabetes. Dr. Nayak’s clinical training has provided him with a valuable perspective on the important problems in today’s healthcare system and his research experience has shown him how technology can be leveraged to implement innovative patient and provider-facing solutions. He is excited to join the inaugural class of MCiM and learn with and from a diverse cohort of peers.
Brian grew up nearby in Union City, CA. He received a BS in Biomedical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis, MO (2013), an MD from Northwestern University (2020),
and a PhD in Biomedical Engineering also from Northwestern University (2018). He then completed his internship in General Surgery at Stanford (2021). Currently, Brian is a Stanford Ophthalmology Advanced Research (SOAR) resident and postdoctoral fellow at Stanford, working with Professor Alf Dubra in the Department of Ophthalmology. His research interest is to develop better techniques to image the human eye in health and disease. Specifically, he is studying new retinal imaging devices that can achieve the highest attainable resolution in the eyes of patients. Outside of research and medicine, Brian enjoys working out, martial arts, and trying new restaurants in the Bay Area.
Elaine Lee is a practicing Emergency Medicine Physician at a Trauma, STEMI and Stroke receiving center in Los Angeles County. With over a decade of clinical experience, Dr. Lee has practiced in an
array of healthcare systems including the VA, county, Kaiser, tertiary, and community hospitals. Her research background includes basic science research in Immunology and Molecular Biology, as well as clinical research focusing on care standardization, workflow efficiency, and pathways affecting morbidity and mortality. For Baseline Global Inc, a startup evaluating the use of salivary biomarkers in the detection of traumatic brain injury, Elaine guided their pursual for FDA approval and clinical trial design.
Dr. Lee's interests lie in the role artificial intelligence will play in the future of healthcare and biotech, with a focus on its ability to increase patient care accessibility, augment provider efficiency, and reduce cost burden. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology from UCLA, received her Doctor of Medicine from UCSF, and completed her residency at UCLA.
Faraz grew up in Northern California, went to UC Davis as an undergraduate, then University of Wisconsin for medical school. He completed a residency in Family Medicine at the University of
Nebraska. He is currently active duty with the Air Force, and is stationed at Beale AFB (near Sacramento) right now. Faraz is the CMIO, medical director, and public health emergency officer (thanks, COVID). He recently deployed to Kuwait working in a similar capacity and is excited to be back to his wife and three children.
Janine is the Stanford Biobank Manager with extensive experience in multi-site and local sample repository management. Her focus is on supporting efficient clinical and laboratory
workflows to capture data and maintaining sample quality across the 200+ active clinical research projects. Janine’s goal is to use biobanking to boost scientific productivity by establishing a searchable platform where self-governed catalogs of samples can be automatically annotated with clinical (EMR, EDC, etc.) and molecular ‘omics’ data. She is also working towards creating an institutional biobank. This effort will become a national resource in clinical research samples and a platform to educate and build trust with the broader and underrepresented community. She hopes that more people will want to be involved with research to contribute to a better tomorrow. Janine is eager to explore the future possibilities of using AI in biobanking. Her favorite pastimes are coaching and playing women’s lacrosse, hiking, reading, and binge-watching a good TV series. Janine is honored to be a member of the inaugural MCiM class and is looking forward to learning, developing, and collaborating with her cohort and MCiM faculty.
Katie Kippley is best known for her curious mind and her ability to ask hard, thought-provoking questions. These qualities have led her to pursue two vastly different roles in her early career.
As an alumna of Bentley University, known for its world-renowned Accountancy program, she completed a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. Katie is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), and began her career as an Audit Associate at PwC. She spent two formative years at the Big Four firm, where she had a tremendous impact on her teams by designing innovative automation solutions that saved her co-workers hundreds of hours in associate time. This allowed her teams to focus on more analytical tasks and riskier audit areas. From there, she followed her passions for technology and innovation to Pegasystems, a global customer engagement and operations management software company. As a Solutions Consultant at Pega, she spends her time critically thinking about how low- and no-code software solutions can crush complexity and provide meaningful business outcomes to clients in all different industries.
Throughout her college coursework, as well as in her experiences as an auditor and solutions consultant, Katie has always been most drawn to the opportunities and projects that directly impact society in an innately positive manner. Her most rewarding client experiences in her current role are within the Healthcare industry. As the daughter of a life-long nurse, Katie believes that one of the most direct ways that she can help those around her is by working to improve the systems that impact our collective health. Outside of her professional endeavors, Katie is an avid reader, and has spent much of her leisurely reading time diving headfirst into some of the most challenging topics in healthcare. You can also find her spending some of that free time cycling away on her Peloton, attending a hip-hop dance class, or taking a weekend trip to conquer a hike. She intends to take her passion for the industry and join in on the efforts to provide a higher quality healthcare experience for all.
Matthew is a healthcare leader with 15 years of experience in Strategy and Operations, Revenue Cycle Management, IT Portfolio Management, Digital health strategy, and Population
Health. He currently serves as the Director of Ambulatory Systems and Services at Stanford Healthcare overseeing technology deployments across Oncology, Transplant and Ambulatory clinical areas. Most recent projects include expansion of digital health solutions (video visits and e-consults) to the broader SHC ecosystem, implementing a precision medicine solution for the Oncology molecular tumor board and optimizing referrals across the enterprise. Prior to Stanford, Matthew worked at Deloitte within their Strategy and Operations practice where he advised health systems across the country on a wide variety of initiatives including mergers and acquisitions, market development initiatives, total cost of ownership models etc. Before Deloitte, Matthew was at Accenture within their Healthcare Center of Excellence. He holds a Masters in Management degree from the Duke Fuqua School of Business and a Bachelors in Engineering from University of Calicut, India.
Natalie is a practicing cardiologist and digital health entrepreneur. Working at the National Heart Centre Singapore, she is qualified in cardiac computed tomography and echocardiography.
She is Lead and part of the founding team of the Cardiac CT laboratory in which she practices. Her clinical interests are in cardiometabolic disease and multimodal cardiac imaging.
Natalie is also Co-Founder and Medical Advisor of WhiteCoat Global, a digital healthcare start-up incorporated in 2017 and the first Telehealth provider recognized by the Ministry of Health (MOH) in Singapore. WhiteCoat was founded to address gaps she had witnessed at the forefront of clinical practice as a resident in training, and is firmly anchored by the mission to provide accessible, appropriate and affordable care, leveraging the power of technology to overcome inefficiencies and maximise outcomes across borders. Currently WhiteCoat is Singapore's leading digital health provider, in an exciting and increasingly competitive space.

Rasika Surpali is an Imaging Informatics Manager at Stanford Children's, who believes that healthcare challenges of our era, demand a systems approach, requiring hybridization of ideas
between medicine and technology. She manages imaging operations in Pediatric Cardiology, leads process improvement initiatives, collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to identify, and develop imaging informatics solutions to improve patient care. Having spent nearly a decade in industry and healthcare organizations, her varied experiences enable her to uniquely navigate complex customer-vendor relationships, understand organizational motivations and make suitable recommendations to help achieve organizational goals. As a firm believer in educational equity, she enjoys developing science coursework content for middle school students in rural India and loves travelling. Rasika holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electronics and Communication from SDM College of Engineering and Technology, India and a Master of Science degree in Bioengineering from Clemson University, USA.
Samantha Alexander Mourrain
Sam is a Stanford Children’s Health nurse trained in Critical Care - adult, pediatric and neonatal, currently nurse coordinator to a team of 14 multidisciplinary specialist
healthcare providers centered on pediatric cardiology. Born and raised in the United Kingdom, she received her degree in nursing at Anglia University Cambridge and then served in Her Majesty’s Royal Navy as a Naval Nurse in the UK. For the past 16 years Sam has been working in both adult and children services at Stanford hospitals.
Sam has an interactive role at the Stanford Immersive Learning Center as the critical care nurse in the Simulation Lab learning and working with interactive technology. She serves on Stanford Children’s Health Shared Governance as vice chair of the Technology and Informatics Council that encompasses planning, building and implementing electronic medical record (EMR) modifications. Annually, working with Operation Mobilization she goes to several regions in India as part of a medical team to provide vital care and medicines to the dalites (untouchables).
She has been working at the forefront of nursing for more than 3 decades and is fascinated by the rapidly increasing and evolving use of informatics and technology that is now transitioning into the patient’s hands and its incorporation into activities of daily living. Sam is empowered to engage in the transformation of the medical industry.
Susan Ruyu Qi, MD, is an Ophthalmology Resident (PGY4) from Canada. She is passionate about innovation in medicine, particularly the role of Artificial Intelligence in the field of ophthalmology.
In her spare time, she has completed the Machine Learning Certificate from Stanford on Coursera and is pursuing an online MBA program at Quantic School of Business. In residency, her research interest focused on Immediately Sequential Bilateral Cataract Surgery (ISBCS), Topography-guided LASIK outcomes, and the clinical trial of a novel retinal oximetry device, Zilia Ocular. Having grown up in Montreal, Canada and China, she is fully fluent in English, French and Mandarin Chinese, and works occasionally as a medical translator. She holds a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from Université de Montréal.
Vasu Divi, MD is an Associate Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at Stanford University. He completed his medical school and residency at the University of Michigan,
and a fellowship in Head & Neck Oncology and Microvascular Reconstruction at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston. He currently practices at the Stanford Cancer Center where he specializes in oral cavity cancer, advanced skin cancers, and head and neck reconstruction. He has a deep interest in healthcare quality and serves as the Medical Director of Quality at the Stanford Cancer Center, and the Chair of the Quality, Patient Safety, and Effectiveness Committee for Stanford Healthcare. He runs two clinical trials at Stanford for the use of immunotherapy in squamous cell skin cancers.
