Bio
Dr. Welch serves as a Behavioral Health Medical Director for Centene Corporation, a diversified, multi-national healthcare enterprise that provides a portfolio of services to government-sponsored healthcare programs, focusing on under-insured and uninsured individuals. She is also an Adjunct Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Atrium Health, where she teaches managed care literacy to faculty and residents. She was recently selected to serve as a Distinguished Mentor for Stanford University’s newly created Masters of Science in Clinical Informatics Management (MCiM).
She was previously the Chief Medical Officer for Cardinal Innovations Healthcare, a Medicaid specialty plan in North Carolina, and an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine, where she was the Medical Director for Virginia’s Health Practitioners’ Monitoring Program. At the Virginia Treatment Center for Children and the Children’s Hospital of Richmond, she led specialty outpatient and consult services for adolescents with substance use disorders. She also served as the inaugural Behavioral Health Medical Director at Virginia Premier, the health plan arm of Virginia Commonwealth University Health System.
Her administrative experience includes serving as the Federal Vice President/Medical Director at ValueOptions Federal Services, where she was responsible for the behavioral health care of 3.3 million TRICARE beneficiaries, a health plan program for military personnel and their families. She also held the role of Director for Psychiatry and Behavioral Health for a regional health plan, leading clinical teams to meet national quality benchmarks while building high quality, fiscally sustainable healthcare delivery systems.
