Bio

Roy K Esaki MD, MS, FASA is a practicing anesthesiologist and Chief Health Information Officer (CHIO) at The Queen's Health Systems, the largest health system in Hawaii, and Assistant Clinical Professor at the John A Burns School of Medicine.

As CHIO, he works with senior executive leadership to lead system digital strategy and governance. The core of the clinical informatics work is to optimize the electronic health record and implement digital innovations to improve quality and patient safety, as well as the patient and clinician experience. 

Following a degree in mechanical engineering at MIT, Dr. Esaki obtained his M.D and Masters in Clinical Research at the University of Michigan. He completed an anesthesiology residency and pain medicine fellowship at Stanford, and is board-certified in anesthesiology, pain management, and clinical informatics.

Dr. Esaki is the Vice-President of the Hawaii Chapter of the American Society of Anesthesiology and Assistant Chief of the Anesthesia department at the Queen's Medical Center. He also is a board member of the Hawaii Health Information Exchange.
