Mary O’Connor, MD

Bio

Dr. O’Connor is a co-founder and Chief Medical Officer of Vori Health, a new musculoskeletal medical startup company.

She is a nationally recognized leader in health equity, chairing the Movement is Life Caucus, a multi-stakeholder coalition committed to addressing musculoskeletal health disparities since its inception in 2010.

Dr. O’Connor is a Professor Emerita of Orthopedics at Mayo Clinic and past Professor of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation at Yale School of Medicine. She practiced at Mayo Clinic in Florida until 2015 during which time she served in many leadership roles: Enterprise-wide Medical Director of Compliance; Chair, Orthopedic Surgery Department (FL); Medical Director for Development (FL); and member of the Executive Operations Team (FL). In 2015 she became the inaugural Director of the Center for Musculoskeletal Care at Yale School of Medicine and Yale New Haven Health. In February of 2021, she joined Vori Health.

Dr. O'Connor is the Past President of numerous orthopedic professional societies. She served as Chair of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery Diversity Advisory Board and Women’s Health Issues Advisory Board. Dr. O’Connor is the recipient of the Mayo Clinic Distinguished Clinician Award.

In November 2020, Dr. O’Connor’s TEDx talk, “Promoting Health – Your Secret Superpower” highlighted the Movement is Life Operation Change program and the privilege and responsibility for each individual to be a health promoter for those around them. As a featured speaker at the July 2018 New England Journal of Medicine Catalyst event, Dr. O’Connor highlighted the power of teams in addressing health disparities, “Title IX to Health Equity: The Power of Teams”.
