Akhtar pivoted into healthcare after seeing firsthand the difficulties his family members faced when navigating the healthcare system. He believes that leveraging technology in healthcare has tremendous potential and that applying innovative and equitable solutions can enable healthcare professionals to improve patient experiences and health outcomes.

Akhtar holds an MBA from UC Berkeley Haas School of Business and a B.S. in Environmental Science from UCLA. He is excited to leverage his educational background, combined with his skills and experience in business strategy, technology, and data analytics, to help make a positive impact on the lives of patients. Akhtar is dedicated to creating innovative solutions that help improve healthcare and is committed to driving change in this space.

Neosoma's first FDA-cleared AI technology, a groundbreaking tool for post-operative analysis, surpasses individual radiologists in accuracy, matching the consensus of three neuroradiologists with a remarkable 95.5% accuracy rate. This technology is also 98% faster in its analysis, making it the only FDA-approved AI of its kind across all medical specialties.

A practicing neuroradiologist specializing in brain cancer imaging, Aly understands the challenges faced by healthcare professionals in utilizing MRI analytics for brain tumor treatment. Driven by a passion for improving patient outcomes and revolutionizing hospital brain cancer care, Aly seeks to leverage AI and deep learning to establish Neuro-oncology Centers of Excellence.

Aly's collaboration with Dr. Mauricio Reyes, Director of the ARTORG Center for Biomedical AI Engineering and Research at the University of Bern, laid the groundwork for Neosoma's initial AI technology and algorithms. This partnership marked the beginning of Neosoma, which continues to develop innovative technologies for adult and pediatric brain cancer management.

Aly graduated in the top 2% of his class from the University of Cairo School of Medicine before completing his medical and radiology residency and neuroradiology fellowship at the University of Maryland Medical Center, the University of Louisville, and the University of Massachusetts. He has pursued AI-focused courses from esteemed institutions such as Deeplearning.ai, AI MED, the American Board of Artificial Intelligence in Medicine, and Stanford Medicine. Currently, Aly is working towards a Master's degree in Clinical Informatics Management (MCiM) at Stanford Medicine.

Outside of his professional life, Aly cherishes spending time with his wife and their three children. A former professional swimmer, Aly represented the Egyptian national team in Africa and Europe, earning numerous medals. Nowadays, he stays active by frequenting the gym and playing soccer.
 

Audrey Adrianne Pavon Vy

Carol Passarelli

Carol is a sport and orthopedic practitioner concentrated on endurance athlete care at the CU Sports Medicine and Performance Center and UCHealth Steadman Hawkins clinics. She currently leads operations and strategy for ViFiVE, a vision AI tracking healthtech startup specializing in MSK care. She is also a biomechanics consultant and contributor to Fast Talk Labs, serves on the Advisory Board for Regis University, and is the medical staff for the USA World Mountain and Trail Running teams. 
 
Carol is passionate about shifting MSK care to earlier in patients’ healthcare journeys and advocating for more Doctors of Physical Therapy in healthcare leadership positions. She enjoys trail running and yoga in her spare time.
 

Crystal Tin-Tin Chang

in other words, how we can harness the resources of existing technology companies and computer science experts to improve health for everyone everywhere. Born and raised in Southern California, Crystal’s entrepreneurial streak began in high school, when she first started and grew chapters of Health Occupations Students of America, a national organization that helps premedical students learn more about the medical field. She graduated from MIT in 2020 with a B.S. in Biology, but also acquired informal “degrees” in performing arts (including a stint at one of China’s top acting academies, writing a play that was read by professional actors, coordinating hip-hop dances, and singing in acapella groups), foreign languages, and surviving the cold. At MIT, she was proudest of envisioning and starting Actlingual, an organization that bridges the gap in health outcomes for non-native English speakers through training volunteers as professional medical interpreters, teaching health education classes, and helping older immigrants through the naturalization process; it is now in its seventh year of operation. Crystal is currently on leave from medical school at the Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine, where, as a member of the inaugural class, she continued to advocate for populations facing health disparities through her roles on the executive boards of the student-run free clinic, the Class of 2024 student council, and the Dermatology Interest Group. Her research interests are in ensuring diversity and equity with regards to machine learning and artificial intelligence in healthcare, creation of a “basic curriculum” in computer science and technology for medical students and clinicians, promoting technology adoption in the clinical space, and supporting creative new thinkers with game-changing ideas in technology and medicine. Crystal hopes to work in academic medicine as a clinician, educator, and researcher who collaborates across disciplines; she is also excited to learn about innovation led by medical consultants at tech companies. She is looking forward to her first stint in the Bay Area, as well as reuniting with all her college tech employee friends.
 

David Joseph Andresen

David is a Product Manager at Syllable, a healthcare technology startup based in Sunnyvale. At Syllable,

Prior to joining Syllable, David was part of the founding team at Verily where he worked on state-of-the-art health sensors as a Product Manager on the Medical Devices team. David’s work at Verily included remote patient monitoring to reduce preventable heart failure hospitalizations, a multisensor wrist wearable for clinical trials, and a miniaturized, low-cost continuous glucose monitor.

 

David grew up in Menlo Park and moved back to the Bay Area after earning his A.B. in Philosophy from Princeton University and completing the Postbaccalaureate Premedical Program at Columbia University. In his free time, David loves to cook, listen to music, and explore the outdoors with his wife, son, and dog.

Derek Zwingli Lim

Derek’s previous research looked at the real-world efficacy of a novel self-
guided course for the management of chronic pain. He is currently researching the use of clinical informatics in identifying modifiable bottlenecks in the emergency department, reducing the length of stay for patients.
 
Derek grew up between Singapore and Australia and holds a Bachelor of
Medical Studies, Doctor of Medicine (Bmed/MD) from the University of New
South Wales and started his residency at St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney.

Golda Manuel

She graduated with her Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of New Mexico, where she immediately began her practice at the university hospital after graduation, focusing on outpatient surgery and critical care. She later moved to the Bay Area to join a major global provider of drug and disease information databases. After much exposure to biotechnology, Golda transitioned
her career to help launch and educate on therapies in oncology, infectious disease, and rare to ultra-rare genetic conditions. Through the years, Golda’s knowledge of technology and programming grew, helping her build and manage technologies in her roles and venture to found a small health education company.
 
Golda is excited to begin the MCiM program to learn and collaborate with peers who are just as enthusiastic about building technology-forward solutions for healthcare.
 

Gabriel (Gabe) Tse

the University of Edinburgh and his pediatric and chief residency at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada. 

 

Gabe is passionate about using heath technology solutions to improve patient care and ensuring that these innovations are equitably implemented. His grant-funded research at Stanford focuses on improving access to and usability of digital health technologies for patients and families who speak languages other than English. From a clinical perspective, Gabe is board certified in general pediatrics in both the US and Canada, and he is interested in how we can improve the care we provide to hospitalized children and their families, particularly those with medical complexity. In his free time, Gabe enjoys hiking, trying new restaurants, and exploring wineries in the Bay Area.
 

Jeremy Childress

centralizes data from third-party EHR, labor, procurement, and financial systems to provide data and insights to long-term care providers in a single location. Jeremy also
developed Tinuum – a digital health application that supports the valuation, management, and reporting of assets across the continuum of care.
 
Previously, Jeremy was Director of Corporate Development at ScionHealth, a health system formed through LifePoint Health’s acquisition of Kindred Healthcare. While there, he was responsible for the acquisition strategy of Scion’s STAC and LTAC divisions. At Kindred Healthcare, he was responsible for
the acquisition and development of inpatient behavioral health hospitals. Before his time at Kindred, Jeremy was Director of Mergers & Acquisitions at American Healthcare Investors where he managed the deal process of long-term care facilities and hospital campuses.

Earlier in his career, Jeremy relocated to Nairobi, Kenya, and joined Urbanis Africa, a housing developer increasing the supply of affordable communities in sub-Saharan Africa. Urbanis emerged as the overall winner in Millennium Development Goal 7 for its contribution toward poverty reduction and improving the lives of people in informal settlements.

Habeeb (Beebz) Ahmad

with particular expertise in digital health since 2009. He is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology and served as the Chief of Ophthalmology at NYU Langone's Brooklyn site.
 
He graduated from a 7-year BS/MD program in NYC at the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education. He has completed two residencies sequentially, Internal Medicine at NYU-Northwell and Ophthalmology at SUNY Downstate, making him uniquely versatile as a physician with training in primary care and surgery. He served as chief resident during his Ophthalmology training in New York City, followed by a Cornea and Refractive Surgery fellowship at the prestigious Doheny Eye Institute/USC in Los Angeles. In 2019, Habeeb graduated as a Harvard Scholar in Surgical Leadership from Harvard Medical School. In addition, Habeeb has successfully founded a healthcare startup.
 
His particular interest is utilizing cloud-based technology to create digital workflow solutions for surgeons. His focus is creating a connected OR, utilizing Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning for surgical analytics, and digitizing ophthalmology imaging and intraocular lens calculations used in cataract surgery. He has collaborated with numerous stakeholders in healthcare, serving as a consultant and healthcare leader committed to biotechnology startups, healthcare innovation, telemedicine/AI, and disruptive technologies in medicine. He aims to create an impact at the intersection of industry, academics, and innovation.

John Wilson

lies in go-to-market strategy, sales enablement, and marketing. He earned his MBA at the Kellogg School of Management. John is passionate about the
intersection of digital health, consumer empowerment, and health equity. His personal interests include traveling, volunteering, mentoring, career coaching,
and watching documentaries.
 

Joel Naor

Joel is an ophthalmologist who made the leap to biotechnology two decades ago
and in the process lived and worked

change in his personal and professional life he prefers to be an active participant
in the process. His strong conviction regarding the potential of technology to
transform healthcare delivery and, more importantly, disease prevention makes
him very excited to be part of the MCiM program.
Joel led clinical development programs that target retina conditions
encompassing biologics, small molecules, sustained release technologies, stem
cells and photodynamic therapy. He currently serves as the Chief Medical
Officer of Opthea. Prior to joining the industry, Joel practiced Ophthalmology as
a cornea and external disease specialist focusing on corneal transplantations.
Joel received his Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) from the Technion – Israel Institute
of Technology and completed training in Ophthalmology at the University of
Toronto. He holds a Master of Science (MSc.) in Epidemiology from the
University of Toronto and a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) from
Simon Fraser University in Vancouver.
Joel enjoys sports, food, music, and spending quality time with his family. He
resides in Palo Alto California.
 

Meagan Finan Moyer

academic medicine. As a Registered Dietitian, Meagan’s clinical nutrition experience ranges from treating patients at the bedside to leading Stanford Health Care’s Clinical Nutrition department. Her work in digital health started at Emory Healthcare where she helped create a centralized department for telemedicine operations and strategy. Meagan’s digital health work continues with Stanford Health Care’s Digital Health Care Integration team where she oversees the operations and roadmaps of important clinical programs.
 
Meagan’s academic achievements include a BS in Dietetics from Purdue University and an MPH from Emory University. She is thrilled to join MCiM and the next cohort of digital health leaders who are poised to positively impact the healthcare industry, together.
 

Julia Lin

Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics from the University of Pennsylvania.

Miller Aaron

Reena Rajcoomar

With a strong background in medicinal chemistry, she started her academic career at the University of Toronto before transitioning to the pharmaceutical industry as an analyst. Her understanding of the patient experience and passion for improving lives through years of working in the patient care setting led her to pursue a career as a Registered Nurse in both Canada and the US. 

 

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Reena is an active humanitarian and has volunteered her time and expertise to aid in the Syrian refugee crisis in Turkey. Her dedication to improving patient outcomes and advocating for the underserved has earned her respect from colleagues and patients alike. 

Reena is also deeply committed to improving healthcare infrastructure and ensuring that our understanding of medicine is founded in unbiased and inclusive research. She recognizes the importance of equity and access in healthcare and is dedicated to working towards reducing healthcare disparities through the use of smart business solutions and integration of technology at a distance. 
 

Phoebe Crompton Crosthwaite

Phoebe grew up in Scotland and moved to the US for college. She attended Stanford University

as a student-athlete and graduated with a major in Psychology. Phoebe currently works at a digital therapeutics start up, Limbix. As a senior research specialist, she assists with the planning, design, execution and analysis of clinical trials of digital therapeutics for adolescent mental health disorders. Prior to working at Limbix, she was a clinical research coordinator in the division of sleep and circadian disorders at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

 

Phoebe is particularly interested in the design and implementation of digital health interventions. She is very excited to learn with the MCiM community over the next year. In her free time, she enjoys long-distance running, board games and dunking in cold water!

Samukelwe (Samu) Mhlambi

Samu Mhlambi is a skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse with over 14 years of

experience in healthcare. He is also the founder of NurseBrain, a smart nurse workflow application that helps nurses improve their prioritization, organization, and time management while reducing their documentation burden. Samu's innovative approach to nursing also led him to develop NurseBilling, an innovative nurse-reimbursement model that solves the nursing shortage by converting nursing from a cost center into a revenue center.

Samu graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Holy Names University, where he was the recipient of the Outstanding Senior Award and Alumni of Tomorrow Award. Along with his impressive academic achievements, Samu was part of the winning team that created a holistic nurse-patient acuity framework at the Johnson and Johnson NurseHack4Health. With his extensive knowledge and experience in healthcare, as well as his expertise in software development and design, Samu is a dynamic and forward-thinking leader dedicated to solving complex healthcare challenges and making healthcare more equitable.

Richard Flamburis

Richard Flamburis is a Division Manager in the Department of Psychiatry at UCSF. He has worked in the medical

A San Francisco native, Richard earned his undergraduate and MBA at USF and started his career working at UCSF in an academic clinical and research environment. His early career included data analysis and managing programmatic set up of clinical trials. He later transitioned to finance and administration in the early 2010s. In that time, Richard has been a department manager, a strategic financial advisor, lead the creation of a center, and has worked to develop relationships with external entities in the area of programmatic development.
 
Richard is passionate about expanding health access and innovation at the intersection of technology, business, and healthcare. Richard has had the opportunity to build and develop various programs throughout his career and is interested in continuing to work in innovation in the healthcare industry.
 

Tai-Jiun (Terry) Lin

Terry graduated from the University of British Columbia in 2023 with a combined major in

Throughout his academic journey, He has contributed to the development of multiple VR/AR medical education applications at UBC Medicine, aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of virtual anatomy education. Additionally, he was involved in the commercialization of AI-assisted precision endoscopy at Satisfai Health during the pandemic.
 
Through his experience of working with special needs children in pediatric hydrotherapy and volunteering in different underserved areas, Terry recognized the potential of digitalized healthcare in enhancing inclusivity in the medical field. He is thrilled to participate in the MCiM program and apply his background in computer science and health sciences to promote equality and accessibility in healthcare transformation, tackling challenges in healthcare disparities of our time.
 

Sergii Molchanov

Sergii is a founder of a consulting company Asia & Partners Medical that specializes in helping

medical device manufacturers to expand business internationally and establish new sales channels. He has extensive experience in the medtech domain (9+ years), particularly in rehabilitation robotics with focus on sales, distribution management, market development in various countries and geographies (Asia Pacific, the Middle East and Europe). Originally from Ukraine, he spent the last
10 years living in China and Hong Kong.

Apart from bringing to markets innovative medical technologies that improve quality of care and patients’ life, Sergii is passionate about personal development and helping others. He is a Founding President of ChangeMakers Toastmasters Club in Hong Kong Science Park, Co-Founder of The Economic Club of Hong Kong (community of life-long learners and intellectually curious people), active member of NGO “Junior Chamber International” where he volunteered for various social projects addressing issues related to poverty, refugees and environment over the years. Sergii also served as Director of Procurement for the 11th Gay
Games (Gay Games Hong Kong 2023), a sport and cultural event for all that celebrates unity in diversity. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, yoga, dancing and learning new things (like how to play piano).
